Michael - just wanted to drop you a line to let you know I enjoyed driving you to the airport and talking music with you on the way. My 3 boys really got a kick out your autograph and are now listening to Three Dog Night's greatest hits tape - their favorite is "Never Been To Spain' - a great Hoyt Axton song! Hope to see you the next time you come thru town. Keep on Playing!!

WOW - What a great site. I'm gonna link the new Ballinjack site to yours. Did you find any of your Devonshire Downs photos yet? If you do, please keep your eyes open for any Ballin'jack images we can use. The guys from Ballin'jack grew up with Jimi in Seattle. We're looking to release their music on CD in 2004.
Thanks for keeping track of so much here on your site and for making it available for all to see. Peace to all.

I am glad that YOU have a website. It will take me a year to see it all. All the pic's are great. I play in a Christian Rock band. You are one of my influences. I have played 3DN tunes for years in various bands and I still think the music is timeless.
My band is a Blues/Rock band out of Dalton, Ga. If you get a chance to check out the site and sign our book, it would be great. Thanks for so many years of great music!!

Michael,
I just wanted to thank you for all you've done! I went to my first TDN show in 1975. Auditorium Arena, Denver CO. (We were the kids that moved the barracades after the show to allow your cars to make the quick exit!).
I was a HUGE Greenspoon and Hutton fan (I played keys). Well at that show I was impressed by the addition of Skip on keyboards, and of course the entire show was AWESOME, (except for Danny flipping off the audience, ... still don't get it).
BUT!, ... the most memorable thing about that night was your guitar work. It just never came across that way on the albums. Needless to say, I went home, borrowed a neighbors guitar, and started playing. Our band Cherry Bomb owes a lot to you and the DOG, even if our styles are a bit different. I tell everyone, that if TDN and KISS had a child, ... it would be us! Weird huh?
You are the best! Can't wait for you guys to get back to Denver! Hope to see you then!

I really enjoyed reading about you in your lil' book.I've always been a big fan of the band and your guitar playing on the LP's It's nice to hear a guy can play rhythm and contribute to the song instead of playing just too many scales and notes! I'm a professional guitarist who makes a living playing my guitar and a lot of stuff in the book hit home with me-it's nice to see you are so honest and humble even with all the success and drugs(lol)I'm a few years younger than you ,but I really appreciate your "Klatu barrda nickto" reference.we have a lot of similarites(sp) both as a human being and as a guitarist from that generation!I would love to meet you sometime and share war stories(i toured with Buzzy Linhart in "74 and James taylor for 6 weeks in '75 along with "hired gun stuff along the way.Did a bunch of jingles (pepsi, state farm and other stuff)some of your stories I could really relate to.....I was turned on to you guys from the "live@the forum" LP and was struck at your great rhythm playing and was a fan ever since! It was nice finding out more about you -hey let's do some ol'james brown and some otis redding stuff someday!

Greetings! I caught the PBS show last night and it's great to see you and the band! If you remember Worlds of Fun and The Westin Crown Center show I was one of the specks in the audience. I hope to catch the show at the Midland in January. I work pro-sound and am a survivor of the 60's. I also have a Fender Blender "Fuzz Tone" that still works! I skipped out of school one day, in high school, with the drummer of my band to buy it as they said you used one. Car blew up, got suspended for 2 days, but was happy wanking out with the twin on 7. Am going on 55 now and still get shivers when I listen to One Man Band, Celebrate and all the toonz. Glad you are still kicking hard and soaring. Thanks, "JT"

It looks like my comments of the Surf Ballroom show got lost during the website upgrade. Just so you know, my sister and I really enjoyed the show. I'm sure it helps that most of the people were standing on the dance floor rather than sitting down. The audience was certainly getting into the show. The audience participation in Mama Told Me Not To Come was the best I had seen - Cory sure went with it. Also, you and Paul do get into the guitar on the new songs - it must be nice playing something relatively new. And THANKS FOR SINGING ELI!!!!.

I decided to make the drive tomorrow (sunday) and catch both shows in North Dakota. Both tickts are in the back row so I can stand-up and dance through the show - I just CANNOT sit during your shows!!! It will be alot of driving, but I worked in a visit with an old friend who lives out that way so as to help justify the HOURS in the car. So see you tomorrow!

Mike - Been wanting to know this for years - please please reply or post here - On Cyan you seem to write 3 great songs, but TDG never recorded any of yours before or after - WHERE the hell did these come from and why no more? The last cut on this LP "Into My Life" is one the the greatest songs I have ever heard and to this day I play it a lot - can't understand why no one has ever re-done it (I've also never been able to figure out which TDG sings it, which adds to the fun) - MORE - tell me more - is this all you wrote? Why 3 on one LP and none again? Also love your guitar playing on all the Dog LPs - real under-rated stuff. Kind regards from the losers at the Boston Tea Party...

Hi Michael!!

I don't know if you'll see this before the Oct 11th concert at the Surf Ballroom, however my sister and myself are planning on driving down from the Twin Cities (about a 2.5 hour drive according to mapquest). We try to get to a couple of concerts a year, however the Minnesota/Wisconsin concerts lately have been more like 4+ hour drives. Also, I turned 45 in September, so that alone justifies the drive. So we decided to cross the border into Iowa. It should be a nice fall drive.

We are also looking forward to this concert because I am thinking TDN may play a little longer of a set then what we have seen at some of the casinos. I haven't heard Eli for a while.

We are also looking forward to, what looks like a dance floor setup, so we should be able to dance through the full concert without worrying about bothering others. I've been getting my tickets in the last row just so I can dance through the full concert. So if it is no seating on the dance floor we plan on being in the front.

So see you saturday!!

Mike,I am a longtime 3DN fan (since my sister bought your 1st. album), I have been hooked. I have 6 kids, you know, hers, mine and ours. They range from 23 to 9. They all have been brought up on 3DN songs. My 9 year old daughter, Bianca's, favorite song is Sault Ste. Marie. Though I sing all your songs (car, shower, work, well you get the picture) I've sometimes did not know some of the lyrics like Pieces of April (keep it in a memory bouquet) I would sing (I keep remembering when evil came) things like that. Anyways, there are words in Sault Ste. Marie we cannot fiqure out and we hope you Know them? Kiddinggggg! we hope you could E-mail us the answer. Here goes, From Sault Ste. Marie all the way to ? and from Galviston Bay? all the way to ? If you could help us it would save me from singing it wrong for the next 30 years! Mike, we met one time in Merrillville, In. in the bar after a 3DN concert at the Holiday Star Theater.I know you meet lots of people, I was telling you how I thought you did a great job writing 3 songs on the Cyan album. They were my favorite songs on the album (yes, I have your Some Women CD). You sounded surprised that someone remembered that. Oh well, got to go. Keep up the good job and go 3DN and Chuck.

I've seen TDN 9 times around Oregon since '84. Love your lead-work in "One Man Band" / "Famliy of Man". Floyd's drumming especially stellar in the latter.

Listened to "'Til The World Ends" on my way to work this morning. That song, especially at the end when Chuck wails the vocal and Jimmy's organ crescendos, gives me chills everytime I hear it.

Take care!

To Mike, from a Navy fan:

Finally! The authoritative site on the best guitarist in the business. Outstanding job on your web book. It answered a lot of questions, I had always wondered how things went for you.

I'm an original fan since 70. Traveled the world with my dad as a Navy brat, played rhythm guitar in rock bands, not very good but loved it anyway. I even wrote to you from Alaska as a teenager, to the fan club address, but realistically didn't expect to hear back. I would focus for hours on your riffs, etc. The whole band was great and the music was terrific.

It made such a difference that I always had the music playing at the Naval Academy (followed in dad's career path)and on all my ships and reserve units that I commanded. I always played my favorite "Fireater" from the Naturally album on our intercom set as we were flying up the rivers on zodiacs during Desert Storm, straight into battle. We got so fired up from that song. My hats off to all four of you original musicians for giving us that music and that track in particular; it inspired my warfare team to win our battles, to defend our country, and made us proud to have done so.

Thanks also for your notes in the book about our armed forces. We are proud to serve and protect freedom that we enjoy.

Well, I sit here as a Captain in the Naval Reserve, reminiscing about the 70's; but, we were lucky to have had you and the band to get us through. Mike, best of luck to you and yours. My wife and I are looking forward to the next TDN concert in the Washington DC area - you can bet we'll be there!!

This is a long shot, but do you remember a group that opened for you in Kentucky back in the 80's called Tom Girlz? The lead guitarist, Nina, recently told me that opening for you was one of the highlights of her career. She said her group got to hang out with the band all day and she traded some riffs with you. They got a standing ovation when they performed, and afterwards, she looked over behind the stage and saw 3DN all watching them. Anyway, Nina is battling breast cancer for the 3rd time and it's not going too well for her. I thought if you have an inkling of remembering her or her band that you could send her a note or something. She's been in great spirits - you would never know anything is wrong from talking with her and she seems so full of life still. I don't want to put her contact info online, but you can email me directly and I'll send it back to you. Thanks! Susan

In reference to the previous post by Michael Lowe:
Getting together the "original band" is always a nice idea. And if it were actually possible I wouldn't mind that either. But even if any "past issues" were resolved it still couldn't happen. Unfortunately Joe is no longer with us. So there would still be a different musician in the lineup. Also, I've heard the Dogs do Chuck's tunes ("One" for example) and Cory does a brilliant job covering Chuck's parts. Shocked me, actually. And Paul and Pat are ably covering Joe's and Floyd's parts. If you go see these guys, you'll see a band that's obviously HOT and having a great time. Oh yes..the webmaster here is playing better than ever too. Michael, why don't you guys put aside the past and get together all the original THREE DOG NIGHT.....It would be an unbelieveable concert tour opportunity.....

Having been raised in Natchez, MS, my parents would not let me go to the concert in Monroe, LA in the year 1972.....Gosh you made some great music......I wish I could buy some old videos of that time----I would pay big dollors-----somewhere there is footage of those early days...

The Last Laugh: A Three Dog Night Story

Remember when you were young, and your parents would grumble when you cranked up your favorite music? Comments such as "TURN THAT CRAP DOWN!!!" were common in my household. Well, from the time I was 11 upwards, my favorite band was the Dogs. And my father was particularly myopic about music, and resented the rock & roll world. "Drug addled hippies" was his usual comment.
But one thing my father and I always had in common (and still DO) is a love for fishing. This plays directly into my "last laugh". While watching the "American Sportsman" in the early '70's, guess who we see as a guest on a fishing segment with Curt Gowdy? Yup, you guessed it. Cory. My father STILL made snide comments but after Cory caught a few Dad started to quiet down. But all in all, he wasn't made a believer, until..
In the mid 80's I was reading an Outdoor Life that my father had, and turned to the fishing section. Now who do you think was the fishing editor at the time? Yes indeed, Cory again!! There he was, holding a huge bass, if I remember correctly. Of course I promptly rubbed the article in Dad's face, and remarked "Drug addled hippies, huh?" with a big smirk. It wasn't very often I got him to eat his words, but this time I won big. He never made another smartass crack about my musical idols again....

Moral of the story? Beware of generalizations!!

Hi Michael,
I just wanted to say thanks for answering my "fan mail", and letting me know what you and the band are up to. I know you've got better things to do that shoot me emails back and forth..LOL This has been one of those weird years, where just as an upcoming gig was imminent in my area, I had to move for one reason or another. Frustrating! Hopefully ONE of these days I'll get to catch a concert. The Dogs are as good as ever IMO, and I hope one of these days we'll see a CD with brand spankin' new tunes! One can only hope...

I am a local DJ and have been playing a lot of hip hop and newer stuff lately. But I am at heart a long time fan of oldies (60's and 70's). There is a magic there I can't describe. Some call it soul. Well a few days ago I put in my cassette of 3DN as I was going on a small road trip and it just sounded great compared to what I normally play at a gig. The reason I am posting here is that I am so impressed with the subtle yet great guitar work on those tunes. Allsup's work is so tastefully done yet on some of 3DN stuff it almost carries the song. You dont hear
that much these days. Just alot of overbearing guitar chops that started in the 80s.
Good going Michael. It still sounds great 30 years later.
You did good.

Hi Michael! Just had to post in here one more time to tell you THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for making my night complete at the concert you put on May 30th in Big Flats, NY. I had been looking forward to that night for a long time and you made is special for me. When I came up to the front to get an 'upclose' of you, you gave me this gorgeous smile and then posed for my camera. That just made my night complete !! I have saved it to my wallpaper on my computer and now I can look at your adorable face all the time !! Needless to say, you boys were awesome. I managed to get Jimmy Greenspoon's autograph on my "3 Dog Night Fanatic" t-shirt, and was so hoping to meet you, but Jeff told me you all would be shuffling off directly after the concert. What a hectic schedule TDN keeps. I don't know how you guys do it. If you want to view my pics, go to the link shown above. Thanks again, Michael and God be with you all while you are on the road. ~~Karen~~

During the concert you broke a string on the black Les Paul, and because your sound guy was busy, he let me restring it for you. Was that the same Les Paul that is on the cover of 'Naturally'? Also, what ever happened to the SG that you used to play? You're still one of (if not THE) best accompanying guitarist in the world. Thanks for all your great work.

THIS IS NOT FOR POSTING FOR OTHERS TO READ...

Michael,

Thanks very much for your reply to our initial guestbook entry in January. We have a request for your consideration in order to make a family member's day: My sister and her husband have plans to attend your April 5 show with the symphony at Texas Stadium. Like me, she has been a fan since about 1969. WILL YOU CONSIDER CALLING HER before April 5 to say hello? Her name is MARY and her favorite TDN tune is "Out in the Country." She is also particularly fond of your lead in "Mama Told Me Not to Come." She is familiar with your lead in that song because I gave her the "Live" performance with the Tennessee Symphony for her birthday last year. Here is the home phone: 972 258-1723. IF they are not at home, a message would truly be appreciated. Thanks again for inviting us to visit with you when TDN is in our area next (we live near Hershey, PA) and will gladly provide you and the venerable "Spooner" with samples of chocolate next time around. Blessings to you.

Just bought the Three Dog Night W/Tennessee Symphony DVD last night. I watched the DVD as soon as I got home and was thuroughly impressed by your guitar playing. I had forgotten how good you are. As a former Top-40 DJ during the 70's, 80's & 90's, I have always enjoyed your music. I hope to someday see Chuck Negron reunite with the rest of you. Good luck and thanks for the great memories.

I suggest that you take down your story posted on the web address http://www.michaelallsup.com/9_11northladen.htm The story is factually wrong. This was an E-mail hoax that has been spread as true. The facts are as follows according to USnews.com and upheld by numerous other sources are as follows:

To all you Oliver North fans, we have bad news to report. That E-mail report floating around the Internet, in which the Iran-contra figure cites Osama bin Laden nearly 15 years ago for why he beefed up security at his house, is a fake. The only terrorist North cited was Abu Nidal. Our library genius Lee Neville searched every database he could to verify the E-mail, but nothing turned up. So we called North, and his aides confirmed the fake. North, in fact, suggests that at the time of the Reagan-era Senate hearings into the scandal, rebels like bin Laden were U.S. friends lined up against Soviet invaders.

For further proof check the actual letter written by Oliver North in response at http://www.northamerican.com/EMAIL_RESPONSE.htm
I would appreciate if the page were taken down immediately as it simply spreads the rumor as true. Thank You,

In the name of Authenticity, Justin Uebelhor

Michael, got your cd for christmas. Youare truly the masters at taking good material and making it better. Sail On Sailor was my favorite-the voice of John Kay and the blistering guitar solo that would make Walter Becker or Jeff Baxter proud. I enjoyed the whole album. Have listened to it so many times that I've got to put it away for a little while. Thank you. I love new material from "older" musicians. Wish Icould get more. Also have Jimmy's new material. I just thought I'd better say something in reguards to a post that I put on yesterday (no I haven't had any responce from anyone on the board). I'v never seen the current line up of TDN in person. I'm a true fan of the original line up of TDN (and I have seen them in person 2x, but not in over 30 yrs). I think my post from yesterday must have been deleted (I have no problem with that). I just want people to know, that I didn't intend to get anyone's backs up. That statement was ment to be read with gusto. Not meaness or disrespect. There may be some people here, who know/or have met me from http://www.peternoone.com. They know the kind of person I am. I'm a firm believer in PEACE,LOVE, and VANILLA CANDLES.

Hi Terry,

Now see how my Dad is?!! Always the jokester. Trust me, it was a lot tougher on me that it was on him. Nyuk. Yes, I'm completely confident that he had a wonderful time at Ryal school this time back there. You have no idea how much he and I talk of his years living in Ryal and ALL the times he had growing up there. It's a very warm feeling for me knowing that you all welcome him so earnestly. So typical of the "Oklahoma congeniality" that I have come to know over the years. Y'all are famous for your friendly attitude of inviting someone in to have some lemonade as they pass your house, (or if it's early, ... some bisquits and gravy!). I'm very proud to have my lineage traced to such a warm, yet stout group of people as have lived and flourished in Ryal. A wonderful place where neighbors actually know each other. Something that California could use a good dose of.

I thank you very much for your guestbook entry. All my best to you.

TIM: Yes, I will be adding Joe Schermie to the TRIBUTES section.First, I plan to leave him as the opening page of my web site for a full year (minus the few days at christmas where I put up something christmas related). I thank you very much for your question. I LOVE JOE and will never forget him.

Dear Mr. Allsup,

I had a very special cousin named Hoyt Axton, of whom I am sure you are familiar. ( wrote "Joy to The World", Never been to Spain, etc...Mother wrote Heartbreak Hotel for Elvis) I am a teacher of children in Special Education. I am revamping a family history and am contacting people in the professional world who may have stories about Hoyt's life. If you and some of your band members could contact me, I would love to have information from you. I know Hoyt had some very rough years, but I am trying to focus on the positive things about him while still painting a realistic viewpoint. Also, how large does a town have to be to get your group to come perform? I am in charge of many school activities and just wondered if you ever performed at schools. I am 48, so I am old enough to remember the packed concerts. You may only perform in large cities. Brownfield is 35 miles from Lubbock, Texas. If you ever perform near here, please let me know. I would love to meet you and your band. (After all, my cousin's talent as a writer did help make you famous!) Well, thank you for your time. Best of luck in all you do...
Happy Trails...

Greetings, Mr. Allsup!

I just discovered your website. My Name is Wally Farkas. I was the guitarist for the (now-defunct band known as) Galactic Cowboys (we had a couple of releases on Geffen and five records on Metal Blade Records). Your playing had a big influence on mine. I think you are one of the most underrated guitarists in pop/rock music. Your work with Three Dog Night is amazing ñ you never overplayedÖyou always played exactly what was needed for the song, and always played with such feel, style, tone, and always with much creativity. Everything you did was right on. Thank you for being such an inspiration.

Sincerely,

Wally Farkas

Hello, Michael! It was wonderful seeing you in New Orleans earlier this month. Sorry we didn't have time to talk more...it'd been such a long time since we talked. I wanted to let you know that what you said meant the world to me. I always loved you and we were good friends and it's too bad that we haven't been able to keep our friendship going. I hope we can now. Stupid things happen, but it doesn't keep real friends from being friends. I still love you and I miss Joe more than I can say! Hope to see you again, soon, and that we can talk. Finally got a chance to write and let you know how much i enjoyed the concert at Grand Casino Mill Lacs Minnesota in september. I've been to 8 concerts in the last 6 years and the crowd was by far the best crowd i've been in. You guys had the place rockin! There were even 3 girls by us about 12 or 13 years old and they were so into it!
What a great time so needed to let you know people were saying wonderful things all the way out and even later on in the casino area, still heard people talking how great the show was. Once again TDN made my night! Thank you!

Enjoyed hearing you in Atlanta recently (Duluth). It was a great show and brought back so many memories of those crazy 70's. Especially missed Chuck as lead. I didn't know the situation until after the concert. Had no idea of his "story." Just finished reading "Three Dog Nightmare." I just pray one day you will all be together on stage again. If it happens, I hope I can be there. It's just so very sad to me that you all can't sing together. I love you all.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your guest book signing. Very nice of you.

Concerning the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame question:

I'll just speak for myself. It has been "so long coming" that I'm a bit put off by the whole idea of it. The order in which the acts were inducted was apparently so lopsided that it has left many of us in the industry feeling it's a sham. Of course the minute we're inducted ... my story will change and all will be just wonderful, no doubt. ha. If we are inducted, one noticeable member will be missing. I'm speaking of Joe Schermie who passed away this last March. Joe was integral to the original band and it would be ludicrous to be standing up there without him ... IMHO. As far as Chuck is concerned ... that's another ball of wax. I'm a mere guitar puke, so I'll stay out of that one. It's great to hear from you. Thanks for dropping in. A funny thing: I tried to email you back and got a message that robbirt@aol.com was not a known member. Hmmmm, interesting. Wonder why that is? VH1: Behind the Music? They already tried to film us for that show. Had a part of it in the can, but there is just too much garbage and old baggage involved for it to be a good thing to do at this point. Yes, I suppose some fans would like to see and hear a "tell all" no matter what, but sometimes even agreeing to "what is fair game and what isn't" .... can be impossible. At that point: You're done. End of story. No need to go any further, unfortunately. If doing a tv program together is only creating a venue for more ugliness ... then you just pass. That appears to be the situation as I understand it. Makes sense to me. --M--

Hey Michael,
What's keeping TDN from being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This is definitely a major oversight. If and when it does happen, will we finally get to see a complete TDN reunion? Hopefully everyone can put the past behind them for one night. A VH1 Behind the Music would be a real treat too.

Hi, Michael!

You probably wouldn't remember me but we met several times. I grew up with Larry (son of Joel) Cohen. Been reading your "Upside..." a little at a time and it is fascinating. I, too, am a huge fan of Warner Bros. cartoons. I'm so sorry about your mom. I lost mine in November 2000 (age 77), after having played "nurse" for her for the final 4.5 years of her life. I miss her very much and I, too, pray that I will see her again. Like you, I am trying to make sense of this "system" we have of living, dying, etc. By the way, Tweety was my mom's favorite!

Happy Fourth!

Thank you for so many years of entertainment (you just keep getting better!) The book is wonderful; each part has something special to offer and I find myself rereading different parts at different times, depending on my mood at the time! But I have to say, Part I is my favorite. Your family stories are the best, especially the stories about your dad! He must be SO proud of you! Hi Michael! I can't believe I found your website! I just got hooked up to the Internet last week and the first site I visited was TDN.com I read for hours! I consider myself to be THE number 1 fan of TDN. I have every one of the TDN albums and memorized every song during my teens and 20's. You may find this hard to believe, but I never got to see you guys in concert until about 5 or 6 years ago when you played on the river in Stillwater, MN. I found out you were going to be there and I figured it would be my only chance, so a friend took me. When I saw you all get on the floating raft stage I thought I was dreaming! It was a life long passion of mine to see you all in person and I couldn't believe it was actually happening! Maybe 25 or so years late, but at least I can now say that I went to a concert! You guys were GREAT! The only complaint I had was that it was way too short! You could have played every song you ever recorded, then I would be happy! Did I mention that I have every album TDN ever made? I also have a scrapbook of things collected over the years from newspapers, etc. I feel so bad about Joe. To me, the only TDN there is or ever will be is the original guys. You all were TDN to me. As a teen, I was POSITIVE that I'd marry Cory one day! GUess that's a bit too overboard, but it's how I felt at the time. Oh, I forgot to say, when you finished your concert and they towed you in from the river, I ran to where they docked and you all walked right past me! I wish I would of said something then but I was nervous. I remember Cory looked right at me! Lots of great memories of that day, a major highlight of my life! I will be a regular visitor to your site and the TDN site. Thanks for the memories, Michael! Keep on keepin' on!

Hiya Mike aka canery

Oh Gosh this is great! I have read, and read.

Some of the pictures as well as the stories, literally made me laugh out loud. The Teen Wolf thing about Danny on the cyan cover cracked me up totally! I swear reading all this is like reading about my own brothers! I really miss you guys!

I discovered 3DN at the age of 13 and I am now 41 OMG!

Although, I admire all the band for their own great talent, Cory was always my favorite. He always seemed very professinal and his voice very soothing to listen to.

I wish Cory would concider a reunion tour, with an Oldie returning. The oldie being NOW clean.

I really believe you guys could make and sell new music!

God Bless you and your family. Just know you all are in my prayers. God as my witness

Hiya Mike!
I've been a fan for many years. (Since I was 9yrs old, 41 now) Ufff
Anyway, your homepage is awesome and its great to hear from you guys! We miss you and the good ole days.
Just know that you and your family, as well as, the rest of 3DN will be in my prayers!
You guys are like family to me. Like brothers, I havent seen in a while. If ever I dream about the band ( which I do quite frequently) Then I say a prayer, of protection, or healing for the one I dreamed of. I've done this many times.
God Bless and much love!

Dear Michael,
I am saddened with the news of Joe Schermie's untimely death. Over 30 years ago in Jacksonville, FL, he was kind enough to allow two crazed 14 year olds backstage to meet the rest of the band. This started my trek as an avid TDN fan and I still am to this day. May God keep him in His loving presence.

Try that again...

Hi Michael. Joe's passing is truly a heartbreaker. His work on "Naturally" was a major factor in my choosing to play bass guitar in the first place, and I will always have fond memories of actually shared the stage with him at HOB in Hollywood. Definitely a high point in this small-town boy's career. He will be missed. As for you, Michael, friends are angels, and you, my friend, are one of God's finest. The Doc

Hey, Michael - I'm 46 & my son is 17. I'm not sure who enjoyed TDN more the other night. We were in the 5th row, when you guys played at The Paramount in Middletown, NY.
I hope you guys come back. If not the Paramount, there is also the Mid-Hudson Civic Center here in Poughkeepsie. We both thought you all were the greatest. As always, thanks for the entertainment you gave me back in the 70's and you're still going. Kathy

When 3DN performed on the happening television show, I was with the group from wichita kansas, july, 1969. we met you and 3DN and was in the happening band contest; we lost. however, one of my greatest memories of visiting california and the tv show, was meeting all the original 3DN members. also, when you are on the road, I always do my best to come see the band; you have been an inspiration and great joy to me in life watching you guys... will try to come see you in springdale, ark, next week...

Heard you are coming to Frontier City again this summer. What's the date? My late husband was a first cousin to your mother. Hope to have the opportunity to meet you. Mary (another relative in Hobbs, NM) had asked me to come with her to Ruidoso last year to meet you, but I was unable to make it. I think the weather kept her from making the trip also. I'm more of a country music fan now, but I spent a lot of hours roller skating to the music of TDN in my younger days. Hope to hear from you.

Do you get to answer some of your e-mail? This is fun to think of the connection made here. Had I had the chance to hear and see TDN in concert would have made my day. But as the son of a farmer in eastern Colorado so I listenied to KDZA 1230AM and life was not so bad after all. Thanks for the music. I take it by what I caught as I came to the site that you have an album or CD whatever. I came across one done by Chuck and have it salted away safely. I listen to a recored version. I hope Im not infringing on anyones rights doing that. But I've lost albums in the past to damage and stupidity. Well I've likely said enough. Im sorry to hear about Joe. Mike

Hi Michael, If I had known who you were I would have put more burnt bacon on your hamburgers. I was reading the Modesto Bee this morning and I saw the article about you playing at the fair this year and the name seemed familiar. I went to my PC CD shoebox and pulled out the CD you gave me and sure enough. Maybe someday I will upgrade to a CD player and be able to listen to it. I kept it because someday I figured I would have a chance to hear it. I keep it with all my PC CDs because it will be close by if the opportunity comes to play it. It is the only music CD I have.

Happy late birthday, my aunt was born 3-8-38. I also went to Davis High and my daughter who turned 20 on Friday graduated from Davis in 2000. Now she is head teller at Wells Fargo.

Oh by the way, you don't want to eat at the same place where I used to burn your bacon. I won't give details but trust me you don't. If you have to go to the one on Tully and Standiford. My daughter was a manager there during high school and it is good. Stay away from Everson Johnson's restrurants unless you want to take a chance. That include the one in Riverbank, the one across from the bus station downtown, the one out on Yosemite and the new one on Oakdale Rd.

Have a good one, maybe I will see you at the fair. (I am not holding my breath, I haven't been able to go in the 9 years I have been back in Modesto.

PS: Burnt bacon.......yucky yucky

Oh I almost forgot, is Joy to the World the bullfrog song. It is the only one I can think of. And my young daughter could only thing of the Christmas song.

I saw Three Dog Night a couple of times in he late 80's early 90's without Mike. Than I think it was in 1999 I saw Three Dog in St. Petersburg with Mike. Mike, I swear I am being sincere about this. I called up a buddy of mine and said, "I just saw the Dog with Mike Allsup."

I went on to tell my buddy that of all the concerts I have ever seen I have never seen anyone as happy to be onstage as Mike was. It was the most honest, sincere performance I have ever seen from a famous musician. I have never seen a famous person so child like and happy as Mike was that night. It was like he was a 15 year old kid who was getting to play with his heroes for one night.

Mike, that was the most genuine, sincere, love for the music I have ever witnessed from an established musician. I will never forget it.

Wow what a cool site! Naturally was my very first Rock Album. Got it when I was 7 because of "Joy to the World."
So Mike, I cannot stress enough the ifluence you have had on me as a listener and a player. And not just you. To this day my incredible love for the hammond organ I think was instilled in me from that album. And as a bass player, Joe is without doubt my biggest influence. To the point that I never even realized it until listening to that album recently. It so deep I don't even think about it if that makes any weird sense.

I am curious if you or your fans recognize Naturally as being different than your other albums. To me it is the heaviest, bad ass, psychadelic of your records. It just grooves so much better than the others. And you get the most amazing guitar tone on that album. I never heard you get quite that same tone on other records nor have I ever heard other guitar players dupilcate it. It is evident that you are using a Leslie. But there has to be more. That everlasting sustain and that organ like grind, I have never heard anyone else get that sound on a record, including even yourself like you did on that album.

My only regret is that I wish it could have been recorded with slightly more modern equipment, and maybe have been a little less pop oriented. Because if it had, I think it would stand up as a masterpiece next to Dark Side of the Moon. I would kill to hear longer jams on the Liar Jams. And I would kill to have heard more tunes like "Fire eater". I know you guys had them, they are probaby sittig in a can somewhere now. What I would give to hear some of your jams that never got released.

You guys were the pop machine. But damn, you coul jam too! You were the best. My only complaint is that I wish I could have heard you and Floyd, and Jimmy, and Joe jam even more. .

Hi Michael,

I am the computer lab teacher here at Ryal School. We ran across your site while doing a search on "Ryal School." The students were so excited to learn that someone who had roots were in Ryal had become rich and famous. We read all of your "Heritage" pages. The kids went home telling parents and grandparents. Now you are the talk of the area. There are lots of grandparents in the area who remember or attended school with your relatives. In our hall hangs the same picture of your grandmother that you have on your site.

We were wondering if you might let us link to your "Heritage site." We have a web page located at We would also be thrilled if you would allow us to put your picture on our site, along with some thoughts you might have on Ryal. We are thinking about making a page that has information about those who have went out and made a great life for themselves. You would be our first.

I am always searching for people who have left the area and done well. It shows the kids that there is a big world out there waiting for them too. Too many of them don't realize that.

Thanks Michael...and please let us hear from you.

My sister took me to see TDN when I was 13 at the Baltimore Civic Center back in '73. I FINALLY got to see ya'll again last year at the Upstate Fair in Easley, SC. You know it would rain on Labor Day, even though SC is in a drought! My kids told their Dad they "need to go to the fair to see the 4-H booths, and since TDN is playing, could we take two cars, so you can take the little ones home?"!! I stayed with our three teens, and had the time of my life!!! A great show, even though we were so wet. Thanks

One my girlfriends got to see your show awhile back when you and the boys were out here last year in Temecula. I was out of town that weekend and couldn't go....but she did manage to get me a guitar pick from you, and I happened to come across it again today while searching the secret compartment of my wallet. I am at work right now, but I couldn't resist taking a peek at your website, and I am so glad I did. What an awesome job you guys did. I had to make myself stop looking at everything, but I couldn't go without telling you hello. I only got to see the photo gallary, and I loved it!!! If you did all the commentary, you are quite the comic my man. Of course the office machine doesn't allow any audio, so I can't wait to get home and listen to site too. I am looking forward to checking out the other features on the menu as well.

Keep rockin' we love you!!! P.S. Is it me, or didn't we all look a little cooler in the 80's...not as cool as you guys did in the 60's, but we tried :) Hey I'm 35, the last generation to have any taste. - Don't act shocked I saw the Tux on the cruise.....kind of Don Johnson thing goin on there.

Hi Michael! I just happened to be thinking of the "old days" this evening and thought I'd see what Three Dog Night was doing these days. I see that y'all are playing alot of private functions but I hope to get to see you soon. The last time was '81 or '82 I believe at the Dallas City Hall Plaza.

The first time, my mom was nice enough to take me (I was 10) to Shreveport, LA to see y'all. It was my very first rock concert and quite an experience for me AND my older than average mom!

You were the reason that I wanted to learn to play the guitar. I thought that everything you played sounded so cool, and the looks of that Les Paul on "Naturally"...I was hooked.

Whenever I go back and listen to all the old TDN stuff, it still brings a smile to my face and takes me back. And it still ROCKS! Even though I'm 40-plus, I have diverse tastes and take in everything from Stravinsky to Stone Temple Pilots, but I will always insist that TDN were one of the most underrated bands of all time. I think that you guys took some great songs and gave them a special signature.

I hope to meet you some time in the future.

Thanks for the music and best of wishes,
Albert

Dear Peter: Thanks for signing the guestbook. Being an Australian from Perth you probably already know the answer to your question, but, I will indulge you anyway. The Aborigines ... when cold at night would dig a fox hole in the ground to get out of the wind and chill. They would, on ocassion, sleep with a Dingo (wild dog) for body heat. The colder the night ... the more dogs. Therefore: A Three Dog Night would be a real cold night. Yes, the Eskimos have the same saying as well. Way back in 1968 June Fairchild (Danny Huttons girlfriend) brought a magazine with an article on the Aborigines that had used the phrase Three Dog Night. The name stuck. Thanks for your inquiry. It's been almost 30 years since I was in Perth. Very pretty there ... 'cept for the Big Whites. nyuk. --M--

Hey Michael,
Alright, I got both "Suitable for Framing" and "Some Women" yesterday!! Impressive solo CD-so you played everything on it?! That's so cool-I didn't even know you played keys! I'm listening to "Gulf Coast Ladies" right now, watch out John Lee Hooker (ha ha!) I'm thinking you had more fun than anyone oughta have when you were down in N'awlins-yeah! Like your vocals, I actually wasn't surprised that the harmonies were so superb, I mean it's not like you don't know anything about those being in TDN! I can really relate to "All Live Together", I have a 10 year old son who I don't see too often and it is tough. I try to keep in touch with him as much as possible. Nice to include "Sail on Sailor"-one of my favorites. Thanks for including the lyrics, I sometimes don't really listen to them all that closely like you said you do once in awhile! (LOL!) But hey I had the chorus memorized...liked your verse, by the way. As usual, nice tasteful lead playing and it was good to hear you cut loose on "This Condition". I'll probably write more about the tunes once I get more familiar with them - impressive Michael!
I'm still working my way through your stories on the site-like you were saying how you loved this business, so you crossed paths with Carlton back when you were mere "lads" eh? And he was a monster then? Wow, I had no idea that he had been playing since he was 6. I got my first ShoBud volume pedal because I read he used one and actually liked the throw better than the Ernie Balls. The only problem was when they went out and dealing with rewinding the rubber wire - what a nightmare! I still have one or two in storage somewhere. He certainly is smooth isn't he, I used to love "Point it Up"-Carlton really nails it! I'm a big Robben Ford fan too, I guess they used to hang out some also, he learned some from Larry too!
Loved the talk about your inflences and when you mentioned Sly is was like - no wonder! And I totally agree with your views on the Shermie/Sneed rhythm section. I'm getting the latest Vintage Drummer with that feature on Mr. Sneed because as you said he IS one of the most unique drummers around. To tell you the truth I don't necessarily analyze his playing because his groove is deep and it's so funky I just get lost the feeling of it!! Obviously he's got one wicked foot on the kick and I always liked his snare sound. Then there's his hi hat work that leaves you breathless, the art of his cymbals use and the awesome power. Then there's Mr. Schermie - I call these guys Mr. because, well-you know!(Ha Ha!) I've had the pleasure of playing with some fine bassists but none of them copped what he could do! Like you were saying I think his use of rests
is just killer, and I just love what he does with his bass lines! Syncopation out of this world with Mr. Sneed locking in-you must've had a ball to be able to be able to play with that freight train! It was nice to hear "Suitable" again, I was jonesing to hear "A Change is Gonna Come". All my albums are stored at my Dad's in Idaho and in horrible shape anyway so I've been slowly replacing them on CD. I'd forgotten that Cory sang that-really powerful heartfelt vocals! Besides the hits I've always liked "Ain't that a Lotta Love", on that bridge you guys have kind of a Booker T and the MG's thing that's great! Speaking of Booker T I did forget to mention that I LOVE good Hammond as I'm sure you do! And Monsieur Greenspoon always kicks ass-you mentioned how you guys liked
Jimmy Smith-oh YEAH!! Funky funky! I just picked up 'The Roots of Acid Jazz" by him a few months ago and it is something else! Wes Montgomery and Kenny Burrell play on it also! I used to do "Chicken Shack" in a band and I liked it so much I could've played that stuff all night. You mentioned you knew Bruce Conte too, yeah, Tower of Power-killer band! Anything with a Hammond-well almost! Anyway, I guess I wrote a novel here (ha ha)-take care, thanks for the music and drop me a line sometime! Rock onward, Mark

Dear Michael,
I had just finished ordering a copy of "Suitable for
Framing" the other night and thought I'd see if you had a
site-what a pleasant surprise!! First of all I'd just like
to say I've been a fan ever since I heard the "Captured Live
at the Forum" and I loved your superb rhythm work and those
great solos! At the time I thought you'd have done real well
in Cream-still do. I was just starting to play myself and
really got into that beautiful job you did on "Easy to be
Hard". So how long are these posts allowed to be? 64,000
words? Cool! (I'm kidding). I didn't even know that you had
a solo CD out-I haven't ordered one yet but that'll definately be a good Christmas present. I used to love the
instrumentals that you guys used to throw on the albums like
"Fireater", so it'll be great to hear you stretch out! Great
site, by the way, I enjoyed the accounts of your early bands along with all of the pictures-what a howl! Interesting stories about the jams with Hendrix and Les Paul-oh man!!! Ever cross paths with the Doobies and do any
jamming with them? I'd imagine you'd sound killer together!
So I'll keep this under the 64,000 words (ha ha!) and say
continue on with the good vibe! You're a class act and a
fantastic guitarist-thanks for the tunes, great times, and
memories! Take care and rock onward, Mark

Hey Joe ... where you going with that gun in your hand? (an old joke. An old song)

Anyway: Thanks for your guestbook post, Joe. Way cool. I loved the Nam story. Very special. Usually a couple of times a year I get a Nam vet that steps up to me and tells me personal stories of how our music and Nam go hand in hand for them. It's always very special to me. Had a copter guy tell me that they used to blast "joy to the world" out on a speaker as they would come in for a pickup (the most dangerous time) of wounded guys in the field. He told of the look on the soldiers faces seeing them landing and hearing "Joy". A connection of safety and happiness that will remain the rest of their lives, as told to me. What a blessing to have been able to be part of that for you vets. We will really never understand the experience like you all do. Never, but, bless your heart for signing the guestbook and for sharing your experience. I think I will add this to the guestbook, as well. Hoping to see you and shake your hand someday. --Michael--

Just saw TDN at Casino Rama, Orillia, Ontario. Was my fourth time seeing TDN since 1972. Last time in 1986 or so, you weren't playing but Jimmie Greenspoon was. So glad you are still playing with my all time favourite band. At Casino Rama it was evident how much you still enjoy playing and it confirmed what I have always believed - you are one of the best. Combined with Floyd, Jimmie, Joe and yourself there never was a better band to hear live or get that live feeling on record.

I thank God that all of the original members of "my band" are alive and well and still playing their hearts out for us mere mortals. Thank you and all Three Dog Night members both new and old for literally hundreds of hours of memories. It really means a great deal to me.

Greetings Michael and to all of Three Dog Night. My husband, myself and 13 year old son enjoyed your concert at the Tuscarawas County Fair in Dover, Ohio sooooo much!! We have been fans since the early 70's when we were dating in high school and never thought we would have the opportunity to see our favorite band in concert. Your "greatest hits" CD is one of our favorites, so my son knew most of the songs played. I would like to congratulate the band on your fantastic sound. I pointed out to my son that many bands today don't sound like their recordings when they play live, yet your band was "dead-on" to your record sounds even after thirty years. A true mark of your phenominal talent !!!

Hi Mike Are you ready for a blast from the past [or atleast a pop] Please close toyr eyes and think back to somewhere around 1963 to 1966, sorry I can't pin it down any closer, I did enjoy the 60s so my memory is understandibly murky. Lower Lake High School, I think I had my Buddy Holly horn rimmed glasses at the time. I was playing drums in Mr. Gamboa's band class. I was trying to get him to get with the times so we could play anything but the marching band stuff. You encouraged me and even tried to teach me a little. But you were not there very long. Something about your Dad wanting you to stay in school and you felt a calling somewhere else. You were obviously right. If you ever happen to be passing through this area (about 45 miles north of San Fran. and 9 miles south of Santa Rosa right off of 101) Let me know. Cotati is a magic place for music Sorentino (Hill Street Blues theme song author) plays at The Tradewinds about every other month. John Alair (Van Morrisons keyboard player) does a lot of bebefits there. Greg Almans band (The Alameda All Stars) plays about once a month here. Country Joe McDonald used to play here. Boz Skaggs used to play here. The Tubes used our great little town to cut their teeth on. Huey Lewis had a band called Clover who was one of the hottest local bands along with It's A Beautiful Day, The Bronze Hog, among others. Heard enough? What I am trying to get across to you is that it should be a good place to Promote your CD. To say nothing about having a blast with a bunch of really great people. BTW... I am unemployed at the moment so will have to wait to get your CD. Let me know what you think. You deserve even more success than you have. Always Yours Hank Bryant

Hi Mike,
I'm the drummer in Urban Sprawl. We me briefly once in Pennsylvania. I was sorry to hear that you wouldn't be part of our project "Beyond The Bridges". However, since the CD has been selling I get alot of comments on how well THE HAPPY SONG of your's turned out. It ROCKS! Personnally, I like it better than the DOGGIE version, but we know what opinions are like. We're planning another project to come in the next few years, if you're interested(probably not)you know where to find us. I don't know why you didn't follow through on OUR project and I don't care. I love your playing and it would have made an already good CD, better. Maybe next time. Peace and I'll be seeing you a some show someday. CEC

I'm 48, and grew up listening to u guys, and playing your tunes in various bands I played in as a youngster. Your tunes were always the most well, written, layered, etc. Not your typical garage band, or Blue Cheer types, although, we did some Cheer tunes as well! In my opinion, 3 Dog Night, is one of the best all time Rock bands. I still listen to my favorite tunes, often. I don't much listen to Blue Cheer anymore! Thanks for thr music! Dave Thomas

Hey Michael-Saw you all at the Fair in Orange County last night. SUPER SHOW!! (Yes,I travelled across the country to see you since I don't see you booking the great city of Winchester, VA anytime soon--HA) I always love to see the audience reaction--most of them were on their feet. Even the little kids next to me. Isn't it great to know that our newer generation won't just know who the Brady Bunch are after all! One question, however---I know that a lot of the guys are getting older (NOT YOU, OF COURSE!)---but what's with the sloooooooooooow tempo in "One Man Band" (and no intro solo by yourself--again, what's up with that??)--and MAMA TOLD ME? Inquiring fans who have seen you a gazillion times would like to know. Your solo's were extremely awesome last night. Thanks for 30 (dare I even say that) years of awesome music and great times. Hugs! Lisa

I hope this touches your heart. I live with my 73 year old mother. This morning I popped in a CD, "The Best of 3 Dog Night" while we worked in the kitchen together. Jeremiah was a Bullfrog came on. She smiled and said it brought her right back to Riverton Wyoming in 1971 when the neighbors son (a friend of my brothers) used to play it blasting out his bedroom window. He played that and "I've got a brand new pair of roller skates" at full volume. Those were great days. Then when the other songs came on I was so touched because they were such a part of my growing up. I wanted to go to one of 3 Dog Nights last concerts but couldn't. I know when I get ready to listen to 3 Dog Night that I will not end up wondering what was so great about that music. No way. It just works beauty in my soul. Thank you all for the wonderful gift you gave with your talents. It brought and continues to bring such delight.

I saw you and the others at Summerfest last week. The show was high energy and great fun. All of you were great and better than ever. I also saw you at the Maritime festival and the Milwaukee County Zoo, which were concerts from years ago. From what I saw, you haven't changed much in years. Actually, I haven't either. The songs Out In The Country and Easy To Be Hard really relate to today and that social consciousness that is so important. I'm glad you're out there showing the world you care and that 3 Dog Night rocks on in history. Your musical message is touching the hearts of many.

Michael.....just sitting here with goosebumps a mile high. I really enjoyed the tribute to Jimi Hendrix. You express yourself very well and I love the concept. Helps us appreciate and learn to understand other talents. Again, it's the up close and personal that is intriguing. Those kinds of features are what I want to see. Not so much the personal parts of personal lives, but the wonderful stories of everyday life that weren't really "everyday" at all. Am I making sense or is it just late. You are a member of a very talented, popular rock group so you have stories of your own, and we know your life has not been mundane or dull and most of us have not led extraordinary lives. That's what makes your web site, message boards, insights so enlightening. We can reach out (spiritually)and in a small way, feel close to someone we admire. Michael,
Just found your site. I'm a guitar player and a long time fan of TDN and you. Loved your tone, specially on Live at the Forum. The fuzz sound was massive! I read some of your comments on the origin of blues, and being from the South, I agree. Have you ever been to a black church? The call and response between the pastor and the congregation is the same type thing. Listen to MLK Jr's speeches. You hear the call and response between he and his audience. Take care.

I wondered why A Change Is Gonna Come wasn't on the greatest hits CD. It was a soulful magical song, just not a "hit" I guess.

Thanx for putting on a great show. I imagine it was all old-hat to you after all these years doing the same songs, but you all worked so hard and made it all sound so exciting. Thanx for making it magic for us.

Went to your concert in Portsmouth, OH on 4/7. The only other time I was lucky enough to catch your act was in 1973 in Lexington. Really enjoyed your music and especially watching you perform. You put so much of yourself into what you do, that it makes those of us in the audience feel as if this is something new for you - not something that you've been doing for several years. Also, thank you for looking at each of us and shaking our hand as we were waiting for an autograph. Mr. Allsup. Words can't express how much the sound of your guitar work has meant to me through my whole life. Your unique sounds have put so much color into music. I wasn't born until 1970 but my brother is 15 years older than me and he saw to it that your guitar work with Three Dog Night would be the basis of my musical education. Every album remains a treasure to me. After hearing your music since I was in diapers...all through school...and all my adult life, I am now a grown married man and your guitar still resounds through my house and I'm looking forward to adding your latest solo CD to my collection. My three favorite songs of all time are Happy Song, Storybook Feeling, and Into My Life from the Cyan album. Storybook Feeling has the most beautiful arpeggios I've ever heard and Into My Life never fails to reduce me to tears....And your guitar solo on the live version of Jam on Around The World is something that Eddie Van Halen could use to teach him a lesson on attacking with a guitar. I hope you will never retire.

Sincerely, a life long fan:

Jeff Baker

I have been a long time fan of Three Dog Night. Over the years I have collected all the albums, then changed to 8-track, cassette and now trying to put together a CD collection.

One question, Three Dog Night was headed by Cory Wells, Danny Hutton and Chuck Negron. I noticed that Three Dog Night is touring without Chuck. What happened to him? Is there plans to have Chuck added to the tour? Or will it just be Two Dog Night?

Hiya Michael:
Just finished reading "Stuff of Life". Great!!! I was especially touched by "The Podium". While reading, it brought tears to my eyes. It reminds me of stories my mother and grandmother would tell about their days in the cotton fields. They would work the fields from sun up til sun down. In the blazing sun with few if any breaks and not much food and water. Tales of women giving birth and taking their babies to the fields (most times the following day) are TRUE. Tales of men sold away from there familes by salve traders. No embellishment here. Also, work songs were not only used to create a work tempo, but to lend a sense of encouragement and hope that God would not only give slaves the strenth to endure, but that one day they would be free. Work songs were also used as a code to communicate of one slave to another of plans of escape, to diss slave owners and over seers and traders. Blues/gospel I believe has been the foundation of most popular music. BTW the next time you guys are in the metro St. Louis area you are welcome to come to MY church and worship with my gospel choir!!! The mere fact that you would put such words to paper (monitor?) diminstrates how pure your heart is. Keep thinking thoes thoughts and you can bring about much change. You are special. I know one day we will meet in a better place. LOVE YA.

Your guitar playing was always what made the TDN sound for me and I am pleased to learn that you've recorded a solo album.

I remember as a teen hearing "Fire Eater" in a local ZOO commercial (!) on TV and wanting so bad to find out who was playing that fantastic distorted power chord progression. It is still my favorite TDN song.

You call 'at music? I've heard better sounds coming from
your backside after a six-pac of tacos from the Jack'N'A'Box.
I oughta know, I heard 'em plenty going thru Malibu Canyon on
the way to the golf course. As I recall, you were real proud
of those electric windows on that green Mercedes. And I always
meant to tell ya, just because you shot a 76, it didn't make
you Johnny Miller,(which you thought you were). I just played
along so you'd take me back for another all expenses paid trip
to Pebble Beach. (I hate to admit it while I'm trying to be
ornary, but that's something I'll never forget. Thanks!)

So here we are twenty-sumpin' years later and you turn into
Mr. Hotshot Solo CD Songwritin' Fool. Ahh God, what took ya
so long? You had an hour's worth of tunes back then and I
didn't hear a single song from that period. You need to do
another CD,(this is my only gripe about the 1st one), and
feature your guitar playing. You know what I mean. The way
you play in private and the way you played on my Keegan Hill
tune last year. Hell, I thought Jimi hisself had stopped in
for a visit. There I go again. Let me back off a little, we
don't need you gettin' any cockier than you already are. But
think about it anyway, OK? And another thing, stop braggin'
about your CD sales. I don't need to know every little time
you sell another 10,000.

Now to "Some Women". Remember back in March at the Valdosta Waffle
Waffle House when I first heard the test tracks? When I suggested
making "Gulf Coast Women" the opening song and you thought it
was a good idea? And what do you do? Second cut, thank you
very much. Tell me, did you do that just to piss me off or
to put me in my place? Just because you're my guitar mentor, it
don't mean I'm a dummy. When I was teaching you Hapkido,
didn't I let you kick my ass every now and then? I make one
little suggestion and you treat me like half a dog. Karma, my
man, 'at sh't it'll come back on your behind!

From the way things are going, you'll probably be filthy rich
again. We both know you're a nicer person when you're filthy
rich as opposed to just rich. So, in order to straighten you
out karmically, just invite me back to Pebble Beach and all is
forgiven. (PS..Makaha was great too. Either one's OK with me).

So, if any of Allsup's fans are reading this, please tell your
friends how good the CD is and how easy it could make their
Christmas shopping. That way, as a collective group, we can
undue that twisted mind and save a wretched soul at the same
time!

Sorry Allsup....I just couldn't resist. Adios you ole bandit.

Your #1 fan, your #1 critic, and your #1 Gumba,

Freeman Batchelor

Hi Michael!
WOW! I guess I should go on line more often. I love what you have done here. I have to tell you thay your CD LIVED in the player in my office all summer (and beyond). It was background & entertainment for many meetings, tantrums and hard work. Anyone who spent time in my office was eventually tapping his/her toes and humming along. What was that about the soothing properties of music? You should have seen what your music did for five women trying to run a business on Cape Cod. Excellent Job!! I loved it!! When can we expect more? Thanks for all of the beautiful music. I'm proud to say that I have been a fan since 1969, and it's wonderful that you are still out there rockin'. Hey Michael!
I just saw you guys in Seattle, well, technically, Tacoma on Friday night...and can't possibly tell you how much I enjoyed it! I was fortunate to see you twice before in concert a long time ago, and was so thrilled to have the opportunity again. Everyone sounded great, and you were delightful. I was especially impressed by the band's willingness to come out and sign autographs for those of us who stayed. You were all very sincere and seemed appreciative of your fans...young and old. By the time I made it down to Cory, I must admit to being a bit awe struck. I've had a crush on him since I was barely older than Jacob, I'm 36 now! I told Jimmy of my nephew who turned 2 years old in June. His name is Jacob, and he LOVES TDN! Every time he gets in his grandparent's car, they listen to Harmony and he sings his little heart out. He seems to really dig on, 'One Man Band', 'Shambala', and when Cory sings 'Let Me Serenade You' he even does the "Ow!" at the end of the song. This little guy harmonizes as well, and it's really about the cutest thing ever. Nobody else instigated it, he just seems to have it in his soul. I looked over at him one day when he was just over a year old, and his little body was bouncing to the beat. I keep saying I need to record him, or video tape him, and send it to you guys. Email me back an address, and I will! My family lives in Victoria, B.C. and my folks, who are to be credited with our good taste in music, have a kayak touring company. If you guys ever come up, we'd love to take you and your families out for a paddle! Thank you, and the band for signing the autographs for Jacob and I. Down the road a bit, he'll really appreciate it, and I certainly do now. Thank you guys for all the years of great music, and for not stopping! Can't wait to see you again, and I plan to buy your CD ASAP, I'm sure it's wonderful! Best wishes, Debbie

Hi Mikey,

The first time I heard the rough cut of ìSome Women,î I got so excited nobody could get the headphones away from me! I was so proud of what you had written and performed that I became your personal ambassador. Now everyone who hears it is hooked! Listening to that CD is like feeling bits and pieces of this manís heart.....you canít ask for more than that. Except of course, we DO want more! It will be an even greater challenge to top ìSome Womenî because your creativity completely exploded on this one, Mikey! God has blessed you with many gifts, and we are blessed to have you share them with us.

Love you,
Mo

Not only is this guy a wonderful songwriter, he's a great singer, too! Michael, going back a few (okay, several) years, I think the songs that you wrote on "Cyan" were some of the best songs that Three Dog Night ever recorded. Now, with "Some Women", you continue to thrill us with your gift of music. If I had to pick a favorite song, it would be "Gulf Coast Ladies"....a song near and dear to my heart. From now on, everytime I eat crawfish etouffee', I'll think of you! Ha! I love your music, Michael, both past and present...and I'm looking forward to hearing more of your musical magic in the future! You're a very talented musician and a real sweetheart of a guy. Keep on smilin', Mikey! I wish you all the best!

Michael,
Just ordered your CD and can't wait to hear it. We have
missed you on the East Coast this summer. Sort of having withdrawal
pains. I sometimes help Mike and Garrett sell merchandise at your
concerts back here and I make all the goofy pictures with the
funny frames from your concert pictures. Keep smiling that
infectious smile. You are an uplifting, talented human being. Hope to
see you soon!

Michael and I go "way back" as he has said. He's a great guy, a fabulous guitarist, a loving father and a great soul! Michael, I am so proud of you for taking that leap of faith and putting it into this incredible CD. "The Many voices and talents of Michael Allsup" should be the title. Your smile, your enthusiasm, and your friendship over the years has been very special to me. God Bless You!

I remember the first time I heard your CD -- I just kept saying "No way! No way!" That wasn't the voice I expected to hear. And then the next song had a different sound, and a different voice, and so on...but they were all yours! You have such talent to play all those instruments! And you have wonderful vocals! On top of that, you wrote the songs! And one more thing -- you're a kind person! What a package! Thanks, Michael, for all the joy you bring. Keep that beautiful smile -- it's a sight to behold!
