Update on Kansas City Show March 16th. Free Outdoors

It's at the Kansas City Power And light District "Live Stage" The Light District is a big retro renovation project in Downtown KC(14th & Walnut area) not far from the famous jazz district on VIne Street. The Sprint Center arena is part of this area. The "District" is turning into an upscale big entertainment, eatery and all that jazz type place (Cost 850 million) The Live stage is an outdoor venue(permanent). I am thinking this is stand and/or bring a lawn chair type deal This show is part of a 4 day music festival going on in the Power and Light District. Time is estimated at this point but I am to going to swear that I know it, only assuming its on Friday 7PM or later on will post more as I find out. Josh Gracin(Was Finalist on American Idol) is on that stage on Saturday night. More when I find out, if anyone is oging let me know so we can meet and hoot for the guys!

Here's a story that happened last night and it is probably too much info for some, but funny. I've been down on my hands and good knee lately, trying to find the source of the smell of cat pee. Male cat pee that is, not swimmin pools or movie stars. As I am watching the CSI Miami Wed Marathon, I am sorting and folding 4 loads of fresh clean laundry. Zelda comes up to play catch and hand me a stuffie. As I chuck it, I notice Peeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuw. Elvis had nailed it good! then Zelda, freshly bathed, comes back and dumps it into the pile that hasn't been folded and the madness begins. She doesn't take well to stuffies that 'dissapear'.

Sammi Lynn

Hey, JB!! Great to see you! Glad to hear you're still in Texas. Not tired of the big city yet? I made lots of trips to Medical City between October and March to visit a friend. It's right there at Forest Lane where 635 and 75 come together. We gotta stop meeting like this, Jitterbug.

I spent yesterday in the wind and the rain getting some plants in the dirt before they expire. I made a mudslide, and Max took full advantage! What a mess. I FOUND MY FINGER, so call off the search! It was inside the dog, then it was outside the dog, and now it's in the trash. Too much information? Sorry.:~) Boy, I'm glad that's over! That critter has some colorful poop, sometimes. For awhile, anything he could reach was fair game. Jason left a memory stick on the coffee table........big mistake! I yelled "DON'T CHASE HIM!!" but it was too late. Round and round they went, while I went to the kitchen to get a bribe. Max bounced happily from the den, through the living room and office, past me in the kitchen, Jason hot on his trail, mad as hell. The action came to a screeching halt when Max saw the raw turkey neck I was holding, but the memory stick was gone! "I TOLD YOU NOT TO CHASE HIM!" I yelled again. We searched everywhere to no avail, then Jason wanted to know what happens next? "Well, you'll have to be on poop patrol, and if he doesn't pass it in a day or two, we'll have to take him to the vet. They'll take an x-ray, then he'll probably need surgery. Don't spend your Christmas money." That's when the boy went into hysterics. "I KILLED THE DOG!!" he cried. "No, you didn't.......calm down! The dog is fine..........right now. We'll watch him closely, you'll put your stuff where he can't reach it, and when I tell you not to chase him? DON'T CHASE HIM for God's sake." The boy was inconsolable, and it was way past bedtime. As I went to lock the back door, I found the memory stick lying on the den floor. Yep! I was tempted to let Jason sweat it awhile longer, but he was in really bad shape! So I let him off the hook. The dog has since learned to respect things that don't belong to him, but we still have to strive to stay a step ahead. He gets bored, and knows the quickest way to get my attention is to prance down the hall with my underwears in his mouth.

Anywayz, I made a big mess in the wind and the rain, took a shower and some benadryl (because of the wind and the rain,) then stretched out for a while. Tired, but glad I got it all done. It's supposed to be 90 F. this afternoon. CHIT!! Summer in Texas. I can't freaking wait. It SUCKS.......

((((Ligress))))) Thank you, sweetie.:~)

Y'all have a great day! We have company coming for the weekend, my house is a twain wreck, and the puppy needs a bath. I'll catch up with ya's later.

Well, we have new girls twins in the family as of this morning. One dark haired slavic looking, (I think is Heather), 5 lb. 11 oz, and I think Rebekah was 5 lb 6 oz and she has strawberry red/blonde hair. (we cannot blame this one on Michael). She looks like her German paternal Oma.
My mother in law flew into town yesterday morning, and ended up in emergency last night. (staying overnihgt for tests and observations). The semi-emergency c-section happened this morning and neither knew each other was in the hospital (same). 36 1/2 weeks, not bad.
Now, to get through the family wedding this weekend.

Mad, I am struggling with my mother, she is truly a cat with nine lives. She is a stubborn Irish woman who is about 5' and 95 pounds but, we all run from her even now. I would love her to come to live in Dallas to be closer to us. She doesn't want to live with us but, there are some really great assisted living facilities that would afford her the opportunity to have her own apartment and scheduled activities that would be something other than my poor daughter chasing after her when she is in the driveway shoveling snow or raking pine needles. I aspire to be her when I reach her age. God love her.

SLC, maybe I can get my mother to live where your m-i-l is? Wouldnt' that be a hoot?

I've been there too and the care of elderly loved ones is difficult and expensive. I know I worried constantly. Most importantly is that they are safe and well cared for. It takes alot of time and effort to be a caregiver, even when they are in a home. I just don't understand why we are the only nation in the free world that doesn't provide full care for its elderly citizens ... maybe some day.

Good Morning To All In The House Of Allsup~

Well looks like you have all had a wonderful time on the Cruise. Must have been a blast.

SLC, I am so sorry I haven't been in touch with you. I have been so busy with my mom...flying back and forth to CA hardly gives me the opportunity to catch up on the time change. I can work from her house but, when I get back I have to really work hard to catch up. I know what you mean about the weather. We are on the 8th floor off of Midway and the 635. Very interesting view at times. Anyway, I am hoping it gets better for the weekend the Black Crows are playing A Taste of Addison over the weekend. I recently moved to Addison to be closer to work and Nic's school She is at Brookhaven College and is loving it. I have to get in touch with you to give you my new telephone number. I have been wrestling with Sears to get my new washer and driver. Front load and sweet..I will call you this weekend when I am able to take a breather. I miss you sistah friend. But, we seem to go through this stuff. Glad you got the situation with your mo-in-law handled.

In the mean time I hope you are all doing well.

Have a great day, and those of you also in Texas...for goodness sakes stay dry.

If anyone finds a yellow and blue middle finger laying around, it's mine. We had thunderstorms yesterday, so didn't get our W.A.L.K. and puppy gets ornery when he doesn't get his exercise. He snatched my gardening gloves and chewed off the middle finger of the right hand. I get the message! Guess I'll be on poop patrol for the next few days. This too shall pass, we hope. There's been a break in the rain, so we took our walk early. The lake is hidden behind a veil of misty fog, as if it vanished into the sky.

I have to do battle with Granny's assisted living director this afternoon. Geez. She's been there since the end of January, I've paid all the bills on time, and according to their records we are $4200.00 in the hole already? I don't think so, Scooter!! It makes me wonder about those who let the nursing homes bill their bank accounts directly. Do they just take whatever they want? I have questions, but the bottom line is Granny is much happier and doing a whole lot better living with people with whom she has much in common..........and there's someone there 24/7 to make sure she doesn't wander off in her pajamas. That's exactly what I wanted for her. Just sad it didn't work out that way while she was living here with us, but glad we tried. I would have always wondered.

Hope you're all having a good week.

Much love,
Sammi Lynn

In the words of James Brown, "I feel good!" Everyday should begin with a chiropractic adjustment...I had an early morning appointment today. Ahhhhh!!!! My three day long head ache has finally disappeared.

David Letterman cracks me up. Last night he was talking about a bank that was celebrating Cinco de Mayo by giving out five dollar bills that featured Abe Lincoln wearing a sombrero. Silly.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Mike: So glad you're doing well after the surgery!! Sounds like you are very happy and satisfied with your life right now. Wish we could all experience that. And you ALWAYS have a big ol' grin on your face when you play! Warms the cockles of my heart to see that, it does! :-D

Just have to smile when I think of you performing and what that would be like here if all of us in the office acted like you do when we do our work. What a hoot that would be to see! All of us smiling, grinning, putting some "English" to the keyboards as we type away. Course jumping and leaping around would be difficult to manage and still get our work done. But, geez, wouldn't that be a fun sight?!?!?! Sometimes you just make me smile, Mike.

Enjoy your day! XOXO

Hugs all around!

I'm relieved I didn't see that, Fogbrat. I was at a beach house with 8 of the girls I graduated from high school with! We had a such a great time! That is way cool that the band shares those pictures with their fans! God bless em ... don't know what we'd do for a newsletter if they weren't so generous and kind-hearted!

Spacey, my neighbors alweady know we are "different." I walk Max two miles every day, and he comes out of the gate dragging me in all directions at once. We're working on it! It takes him a few blocks to settle down. He keeps his nose to the ground, and a few months ago I gave a tug on the leash and finally got him to walk next to me like he's supposed to. Head up, shoulders back, relax, look straight ahead, don't look at the dog. We strolled along for about a half a mile, me thinking: This is great!! Then I looked down. He was carrying an empty Bud Lite can in his mouth. Well, he's a workin' dog. That was the same day Granny snuck out and went for a walk in her pajamas, carrying a purple bowl. But that's another story.......

Jackie, I can't believe Jason is almost eighteen years old. Just yesterday, he was a little baby, then I blinked, and now he's grown. He gets to vote in the general election this year, and he is STOKED!!

(((Wowa Jean))) Big hugs to you, sweetheart, and John, too.

What's for lunch, Chef Steve? I'm up to my elbows in petunias this afternoon, and don't have time to cook! Something spicy would be good, and a vodka tonic.

Y'all have a good Sunday!

I'm not one to toot my own horn, but if I have given Jimmy a reason to be happy and it shows, than all I have to say is "THANK YOU!!!! He's had that affect on my life, too. I'm just not on stage for everyone to see. I'm still working on his smile. He smiles so beautifully at home, lights up a room, but becomes more reserved at stage. Perhaps I need to sneak up during a show and squeeze his tush. I KNOW that will make him smile, might also cause him to hit a few wrong notes. What a show that would be!!!!!

Got to hit the hay now so I can pick up Sir Loves A Lot at the train station tomorrow and head to Ocean City. I don't k now who all are going from the east coast area, but if you see me, HOLLER! I'd like to be able to say hi and get some hugs!

Spacey and Widow: What lovely things to say. I'll pass that along to her. Yes, I'm basically "vewy pwivate" with my home life and "stuff." Still, it was great fun having Linda along on the cruise. She had a wonderful time and enjoyed meeting a number of you. Now let me return to "pwivate Gwover", .. er ... kinda. You know.

I'm excited to be back playing again (tonight). Right wrist is doing marvelous. I can't believe that I actually had NO PAIN AT ALL from the surgery/procedure. Range of motion and stiffness was the thing to overcome. I'm thrilled that it went so well. Thanks to all for your concern and good wishes. Brakeep-I'm just gonna lay on the floor, and you can pour whatever booze is the special for tonight, right down my throat. It's been a hellacious week!

Been doing some spring cleaning to prepare for a garage sale, and finally got the nerve up to go through my boy's things. Hey Sammi Lynn

Yes indeed. You have lots of new, exciting things in your life. Jason is almost 18 – time flies. And how precious is Mad Max, your ‘foundling.’ The perfect addition to your new house and car. Bet he’s gown a lot since last October.

My life is status quo. Same house, car, dogs & cats. However, I am now working at a newly opened office about 15 miles away home. No more grueling workday commutes!

And you are so very right. It’s been good to keep in touch with some of the folks here.

Thanks for not starting that rumor, Spacey. But if I ever get thrown in jail, I know where to go for bail money! (((Wowa Jean)))

Everything's pretty good. My house has become "party central" for Jason and his friends, so I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I don't mind. They are great kids, and this way I know where they are, and what they are doing! Guitar Hero is the latest craze, and they ain't so good at it. They ask "How was that?" and I say "Not bad, try again," whereas dad says, "Y'all SUCK! GIVE IT UP!!" Tact is not a "dad" thang, evidently. I turned fifty a few weeks ago, and got a new car for my birthday. Last year, I got a new house. Can't wait to see what next year brings! We still haven't finished moving out of our old house, but should be getting it wrapped up before too long. It's hell taking care of three houses...........my mother-in-law's house in Fort Worth is under repair for my stepson and his little boy to occupy soon. Sorry about the phone numbers! I'll send you one that works. We've been outside clearing brush this afternoon, I got a late start this year and things are growing out of control. Lots to do, and it's starting to get hot here in Central Texas. It SUCKS.....

Note To Self: Don't Try To Bundle Limbs While Puppy Is Watching. He took off with the ball of twine, then we played his favorite game......CHASE THE PUPPY!!! I finally got it it back, then spent another 15 minutes winding it back into a ball. Geez. I'z a tired Mama, which is a good thing! I sleep like a baby these days.

Gotta go see what's for dinner. Y'all have a good evening!

Later, S.

Spacey: I remember you asking about the UFO sightings in Texas a few months back. I wish I HAD been a witness! The area reported is just south of the panhandle, in West Texas. Ultra-conservative folks, so I believe they actually saw something. It's on my list of chit to check out, and I'm keeping my eyes open in case Scotty decides to beam me up. I wanna be a Space Cadet, too!

Sammi Lynn

Hey, Swamsters! I decided to sit down and check in with youze guys, since some of you are wondering where the hell I've been. I've been to too damn many funerals lately, that's where, but that's how things are sometimes. This past year has been quite an adventure, wonderful things have happened, while others are too horrible to imagine. I have been blessed in some tremendous ways, and grateful for those of you who have taken the time to check up on me. That's what friends do, when someone they care about is acting strangely, and you haven't heard from them in awhile. They hunt you down and offer support. Something I've been guilty of not doing myself, and I apologize for being unresponsive at times. Things happen that render you speechless, and there's been a lot of that going on. Things that hurt so bad, you don't dare attempt to put them in words. One thing I can't do is sit still for too long, so not spending much time on the computer!

It's true, God works in mysterious ways. The day after Labor Day last year, a puppy dog wandered into my life, and he has been a major blessing. It was raining, and on the way to take my son to school we spotted this little critter walking down the middle of the street. I slowed down, and he stepped right out in front of the car and looked straight at me, as if to say, "I'm here!! I'm your dog, stop and get me!" So I did. I scooped him up and took him home, put flyers all over the neighborhood, and e-mailed a few pics to my husband, who said, "Ain't nobody gonna claim that dog, that's the ugliest sumbitch I've ever seen." Then he asked what I named him. Ha. We waited two weeks and no one claimed him, so I took him to the vet and got his puppy shots. He was approximately 10 weeks old, and weighed 15 pounds. Three vets have looked at him, and they all say the same thing. He's blue heeler, and.........something BIG!! Exactly what has yet to be determined. He is now 11 months old, weighs 81 pounds, and has turned out to be a beautiful dog. Smart, and funny. When my Nellie died 11 months before Max came along, I asked God to please not send me any more dogs! But if he did, please make it something small, and female. So God sends me a male pony. Lesson learned. Be careful what you ask God NOT to do. But it's a good thing, because exactly one month after Max came along, things got really bad. He's a handful, and that's what I needed. He has taught me to live in the moment, not hold on to the past, and not worry about the future. Life is good, Mikey.

Hope you're all doing well. Mikey, you must give us all the details of your surgery when you're able. Don't spare the gore!

Love ya's,
Sammi

FogBrat (again)
And BTW, Mr. Brat, when he was (much) younger and unbearded, bore a kind of freaky resemblance to Micky Dolenz. I think that's why he grew the beard. I once met this kid who was a dead ringer for a young Cory, bizarre events ensued...and that's all I'm gonna say about it (for anyone who's ever heard one of my "bizarre events ensued" stories, just fill in the rest yourselves. Silently, please).

Ain't never seen anyone quite like the Barkeep, though...whoever said he's an original is absolutely right.

In other news, our local 24/7 Blues station has been pulled from the airwaves and replaced by a Christian Rock station. Just when I *finally* found a station I could listen to in the car without feeling queasy, it gets yanked off the air. Guess I'll just go back to my CD's. :-(

Yes, I've had the pleasure of meeting Mary a few times! She is a very attractive, classy lady and as sweet as they come. You feel like you've known her all of your life. She was on the first TDN cruise that we went on and she is a delight!

I've known Spoonette then and now (before and after she met Jimmy) ... and she hasn't changed a bit! She's still the same "crazy" fun gal that she ever was!

There's not a single one of the band's ladies who has their nose up in the air ... just not TDN's style!

Greetings -

I love the comics. Did anyone catch "Baby Blues" the other day? I won't do it justice without the pictures, but there are two little kids about 5 & 6; brother & sister.
The little girl says in amazement to her brother " You told Mom she has wrinkles on her stretch marks?!?!?"
The little guy replies " It was a compliment! It gives her texture!"

I love it - no longer do I have stretch marks, wrinkles and cellulite -
I am a Woman of Texture !

Spoonette, if I may ask, did you'all meet at a concert ?? Since you said you had been a fan of TDN ? And have you'all been married along time??
Ligress, did you get your answer about Cory's wife, Mary?? I heard she did not go on the cruise. I believe Madonna can answer the question's about Cory's wife, I also heard she has maybe met her?? I read in Chuck's book, that Cory and Mary were High School sweetheart's. So see none of us had a chance from the beginning !! lol Lorna

Hi Pam. I have a question that I hope is not personal regarding Cory's wife. I cannot recall ever seeing a photo of her. Have I missed this, were there any of her taken and/or shown if she attended the cruise? Could someone here point her out to me in a photo maybe? Does she (Mary, is it?) ever join Cory on tour, does she have her own career? I'm just curious because I hear/see so very little if any info on her. My guess is she is a very private person? Just wondering. Carry on.......Cindy

Your welcome Spoonette, I got to thinking after I posted it, you haven't met me yet, that could be alittle scarey, I would be scared !! LOL. I'll have to check out the available men there, if any, and offer him the seat. LOL Only trouble is I am just to picky !! I think I have been alone too long! My Mom alway's had a saying, there can be a lot worse thing's than being single. And I think she was right. The ticket's are for the 1-3 front row, so it should be fun. I am patiently waiting for the TDN show , closest one is Hillsboro NO. to Nashiville, Hopefully , the band may hang around alittle after and I'll go up to Spooner and introduce myself, so he can tell you , he met me, and boy is she scarey!! lol, I know they have a show the next day in PA. so probably they'll be in a hurry..........

Eh, Spacey?

Hey Mr. Michael R. Allsup The Barkeep! Hope your healin' is going fast so you can get back to pickin' instead of flippin'. Not to mention that even RAWK DUDES need all their fingers on one hand able to provide a firm grip once in a while. And don't try to BS me either. Anyhoo, in the meantime some "jug exercises" are highly recommended. I do those anyway, just to keep up my finger strength for pickin', flippin' and God knows what else...heh heh

For the sake of physio therapy, the Brakeep should raise both hands in front of his chest and cup them like an 'air-bra'. This movement, etc should come very naturally to him. He can also signal Chef Steve that it's time for milk, or time to get 'jugs' of beer, or cider. Or just plain old use your imaginations. Do five sets of this exercise 10 times a day. Do not do it in crowds where women are plentiful such as airport line ups or shaking hands with the crew as you are de-planing.

Glad to hear the hand is feeling well (yes, that's a double-entendre). And glad to know that the Mr. Digit Hand Puppet Salute is fully functional...take it from Mr. Brat: you don't know how much you need that ability to flip someone off in traffic until it's gone (see also: "driving in Boston").

Could y'all in the midwest send that snow my way? We had about 2 weeks of 75 degree weather, and we're both sick of summer already. Snow would be nice, though we're (finally) getting some substantial rain today and tomorrow. Tonight in the DVD player: Mystery Science Theater 3000. Popcorn, anyone?

He hasn't done one in a long time, he usually does radio gigs to promote shows and that's mostly local to where we are.

As most of you might know, Danny Federici, who started the E street Band, passed away April 18th from melanoma. Jimmy told me that it was Danny who started the band and asked Bruce to join them. They were a very small band performing at the Stone Pony on E Street in Asbury Park, NJ. Danny had been on sabbatical from the band while receiving treatments and went into the hospital on April 18th to begin another round of treatment when he died. He last performance with Bruce and the band was March 12, I believe. There's a video clip of that performance on Bruce's website with the band playing "Sandy". Danny was playing the concertina.

Danny and Bruce grew up together since the early days of school. I can't imagine what Bruce and the band must be feeling now.

My children and I are going to see the E street Band July 28 at the Meadowlands in Rutherford, NJ. Danny will be in our hearts.

Spoonette: I am half way through Jimmie's book and I think it takes courage for someone to write an autobiography. We all have changed over the years and I value what you said how Jimme changed and believe it. Reason is: If he had not he probably would not be still playing with the intensity he does, and love that he has nor be the friendly dude he is. Cahnce are he owuld not be with us. I also think there is some healing in much of what he wrote for him and that he is thankful to have made it through. I think back of my daysof yore and I am glad I made it to 60. I very seriously should not be alive today and I am thank God that I am and have a great family. I also am very seriously thankful for the joy that I get listening to 3DN music. It is my addiction. I just can't live without it!

I was also on top the Tiwn Tower's some years back and remember the awesome site looking out at the Statue of Liberty and at the little people scurrying 1000 plus feet below the observation windows. Today, I am not sure I could handle going to the sight, but some day I will to pay my respects I was watching TV live that morning 9/11 and I have never been the same since.

And I am sure that all the families and friend's of everyone in N.Y.C. felt the same way I have after that day.In Jan. of 2001 my daughter was attacked violently by the two maintance men were we had move to here in Nashville Tn. They are in prison, but she couldn't sleep, they attacked her for 4 hrs. I was in Utah for 30 day's taking care of my Mom who was dying of cancer, when they came in and attacked her infront of her children, she couldn't sleep so the Dr. gave her all the pain med's she wanted, she was so beautiful he couldn't tell her no. So I was hoping this trip might help her, hopefully it won't make her more depressed. Enough of this sadness! We'll have a safe and wonderful time. Can't wait to taste all the goodie's in Time Square. Then the best treat will be when we see TDN for the first time in July !!!! Can't wait. Lorna

Hi everyone.

I just wanted to poke my head in here for a second to let you know we're still around. ("We" meaning Susan and I) It's been too long since I been here and I'm totally lost!

We've been hibernating and now finally enjoying the spring air. It sure has a way of lifting the "moodies" a bit.

MICHAEL: I'm glad the hand is doing better. You got them ensured?

I don't have any news or anything else to say at the moment...except...HI!

Take care!

Spoonette- I'm surprised and sorry your job at DHS has ended. Recently I was reading that the DHS would be adding thousands of jobs in the future, so I was quite surprised with your news. I am certain a door will soon be open to you with an opportunity that you find interesting and rewarding. (((Susie)))

Wowa - it was not the Pope who answered the little boy's question, it was the fireman, John.

Going to Ground Zero IS a very emotional experience. I've been there a few times and I'm overwhelmed every time.

The long story I didn't tell is: when I first approached the station I stood and listened to John speaking with this family. I saw they station had merchandise for sale (ALL proceeds going to the families of the firefighters who left families behind. Shannon took my picture standing beside John (whose name I did not know at the time), I purchased two shirts, thank John and listened to him speak for a little while. After the kids begged "come on", I walked away about one block, then turned to walk back. I believe my heart was telling me to go back. John was still talking to the same families that were there the when I went there the first time of the day. When there was a break in the conversation I purchased a hat from John to give to Jimmy. Once again I walked away, and again my heart strings drew me back. Both families were still there and other people had come around. I weezeled my way to the front of the crowd, he smile at me and asked if he could help me, again. I told him I just wanted his first name to go with my picture of the both of us. He simply said, "John" and told me about their website. I shook his hand and said "God Bless you, John".

Getting his first name closed that chapter for me and I moved on with my night. I feel very fortunate to have met, had a picture taken with and shook the hand of this man. I do not live in NYC, but I can tell you that NYC is very fortunate to have firemen extremely determined to protect those who live and visit there. If they have a message board on their website, I think I'll enter a "thank you" post.

My contract with Homeland Security (DHS) recently came to an end (I was there four years)., so I am unemployed. I can say working there was an adventure in many ways. DHS has had many successes, no one knows about but even with all those successes, DHS is still very dysfunctional and will become more so with the change of administration on the horizon, no matter who lands in the White House. I'm glad I won't be there to see it first hand as it will result in MANY people losing their jobs and the rest will be driving. I am but one person, however, I do feel that what I did for the agency did aid in protecting the U.S.

I don't know what I'll do next , but I'll figure it out. I just have to keep remembering - when one door closes another opens.

God Bless the U.S.

Lorna, New York is such a beautiful city and it has an energy like no other! I know you'll have a great time and what a learning experience for the kids. We like Carnegie Deli for sandwhiches that are HUGE--about 10 iches thick!!! Share!!! Subways are pretty easy to navigate, but study your destination or ask the hotel so you know which station and train is your destination. Ground zero is a very spiritual place ... you can feel it!

Good late morning all. Pam T., I too have decided to donate my hair to Locks of Love. I wasn't sure that my "older" locks were good enough, but I was assured that my hair was in beautiful shape so I jumped at the chance to give. I have about 3 more inches to grow so hopefully soon enough it will be time to chop! I don't wear my hair short because I've yet to have a style that flatters me, but I've been told that there are so many new styles that will work, we'll see. I'm just happy to donate a personal part of me to a wonderful cause. Our mini vacation was cut short early Sunday morning with the news that my neighbor and very dear friend Bobby had passed on suddenly of a massive heart attack, in his wife's arms. He was only 47. He leaves his thirteen year old son and 16 year old daughter also. They are destroyed and in shock. I haven't stopped crying since I've heard and I've been doing everything I can think of to help and comfort them, but the situation has left us all numb with pain. Bobby was the sweetest gentleman with the biggest, kindest heart, he never said no to anyone who needed his help. We were looking forward to enjoying a summer with them doing the usual family outings and maybe taking a trip to somewhere special together. Bobby was a relentless "doer" and worked very hard to provide a safe and happy home for his family. Unfortunately there was never enough for any "extras" because of family health issues expenses There was no life insurance policy left for his family, which was unexpected . The next few days will be the hardest right now but the future is going to be a challenge for this lovely family. I am asking you good people here for a prayer for my friends for their emotional and physical well being,if you please. They surely need many during this time. Thank you so much in advance for your time and thoughfulness. Love and blessings, as ever, Cindy

As the topic of NYC and Ground Zero was being discussed yesterday, I happened to be wearing my NYFD t-shirt that I bought during my last visit to NYC. I don't wear it often, mostly keeping it as a reminder of my visits to Ground Zero, but I happened to be wearing it yesterday when the conversation about Ground Zero took place.

As for getting around NYC, I agree with Susie about the car. It's nearly impossible to park and if you do, it costs an arm and a leg. It's way too stressful and expensive. It's so much easier to take the train to Penn Station, then walk or take the subway. There is a tourist type office in Times Square where they sell subway passes and also have maps of the city. They'll answer any questions you have about getting around. If you like cheesecake, Roxies is a MUST. It's in Time Square and you'll find about any flavor you can imagine. It's unbelievable. Just look at the cakes in the window and you'll get a brief idea of what they offer. Mikey knows, though I don't know if he's eaten there, but he's seen it.

I highly recommend visiting Ground Zero. It is a very emotional place, but for me it brought the reality home and I needed that. Even though I was living near Boston where 2 of the planes had been hijacked, in a way it still seemed unreal until I actually visited Ground Zero. I had been to NYC in May before the attacks and remember seeing the towers for the first time and had taken several pictures of the Twin Towers from the ferry. It was unreal to go back the next January and see the giant hole where they once stood. The subway station underneath where we had been in May was destroyed. The fence around the site was totally covered with pictures, flowers, notes, poems, toys, stuffed animals and even a bike. It has been almost 5 years since I've been there and doubt I'll get to go back, but I'll never regret my two visits there.

I also visited a fire station not far from Ground Zero. I don't know which one it was, but it was within walking distance. They had pictures of the firemen they lost and a memorial to all the firemen who died and the outside had black cloth draping the building. It was extremely sad, but like Ground Zero, I'm glad I saw it. For some people who haven't been there in person, it may seem more like a movie than reality. As agonizing as it was to live in the middle of an area that lost so many innocent people, I'm glad I was living there at that time as it helped me to fully understand the reality of what had happened. Three days before the attack, I had been through the same United gate at Logan Airport that the hijackers used. It was such a creepy feeling, knowing they had been there daily for at least a week, driving the highway near my house as they drove to and from the airport to scope it out. I'll always wonder if we might have seen them there. It's impossible for me to understand how anyone could have such hatred and disregard for the lives of innocent men, women and children.

Wow, these are some powerful memories for me, but I'm actually glad for the reminder. I have many pictures from my trips there and I make a point of looking at them from time to time as a reminder of how horrendous that day was for this country and for all those who lost friends and family.

Soaring Nancy-I have the same pipe dream, my dear! We play the lottery every week hoping for some cash. I'll let you know if we ever win, so we can do our own private show. Worth a shot, anyway. :~)

I've never been to ground zero, and I can only imagine just what feelings and images are brought up there. I remember not believing that such a thing could happen here in the US. When I saw the images on tv, I could only think it was "just" a disaster movie. Sounds like the Pope had just exactly the right response to the little boy's question.

It's really hard to reply to all the emails.

My first response is to say DO NOT drive into Manhattan. If you can stay in East Rutherford, NJ (GO GIANTS), do so and take the train in to Penn Station, then take subways. You get a real feel for the city with less stress. If you want to go to Ground Zero, I'll try to get the nearest subway station for you cuz I just don't remember what it is. I'm sure 10 House is open 24/7, but a different fireman may be out front answering questions. In a very short period of time John provided me with more insight into the destruction of 9/11 than my 4 years at Homeland Security. Very eerie!

On the drive up Friday afternoon to see my daughter, my son and I heard on the radio that Danny Federici from the E Street Band passed away from melanoma. This, too ripped at our hearts as an era came to an end. Truth be told, Danny started the E Street Band and invited Bruce in. I cannot imagine what how Bruce and the guys feel. This will forever change the E Street Band. My kids and I have tickets to see Bruce on July 28th. It will be a melancholy night.

I hope we all find peace and love in our lives. Don't let the pettiness get in the way of truly magnificent joys in our lives such as:
peace, love and serenity!

God Bless the US!

Rutherford, New Jersey, but we planned to go to New York, were going one day to tour the Statue of Liberty and my granddaughter is dying to go shopping in New York, since you went there this week end do you recommend driving to Manhattan, or taking a bus or tour there. I would love for them and I to see ground zero. We lost her Mom, my daughter almost 3 year's ago and she wanted to take her kids there someday,But I've heard different thing's about taking a car to New York ?? If you wouldn't mind maybe you could give me your thought's. I've never been there either. One of the fan's recommended Time Square, and the Hard Rock Cafe. So we'll go there. thank you Lorna

Spoonette, your story gave me chills. Our son (fireman) arranged for Paul and me to visit 10 House while we were in New York not too long after 9/11. We saw the memorial inside and it is forever ingrained in our minds. We didn't meet John when we were there and I wish we had. I'm very interested to read his story and will go to the website. Thanks for passing this along. It hurts that people seem to have forgotten after all, or even worse, they think 9/11 was just a movie!

My son and I went to see my daughter at college in NY this last weekend. We went to Manhattan Saturday afternoon as my son wanted to see ground zero (he was there 2 months after the attack) and my daughter wanted to go to Planet Hollywood for dinner. Her boyfriend came with us. So we went to Ground Zero first. The fences you could see through before are solid now, so the only way to see the pit is to walk the overpass and look down. We stopped at 10 House, the fire station next to Ground Zero. Just as we got there one of the firemen was talking to a family of four with the 8 year old throwing question upon question at the fireman. He didn't hold back on his answers. They were true to point. There is more to this story but I want to get to the point, the point that caused me to stop in my tracks.

As you might know the Pope was in NYC over the weekend, so the city was overcrowded with people who had come for Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral Saturday. While still at the fire station talking with John Morabito (the fireman who has a very compelling story on 10 House website), a family with a little boy in POPE T-shirt came up. As they listened to John speak, the littler boy looked up at John and asked "Where was God that day?" Without hesitation john responded "He was with the 35,000+ that were saved." Everyone listening to him froze, it was eerily silent. I went to the"10 House" website last night and read John's recap of 9/11 from his point of view. He was one of the ones God was watching over.

His response to that little boy's question has lodged itself deep in my heart.

God Bless America!!!!!

Andra, thanks for that story...it reminded me of an extremely cool moment I had at that miserably soggy show in Brookhaven NY a couple of years ago. I actually think I like "Heart of Blues" a bit better in a room that's acoustically dead, just sounds a little leaner and dirtier to me that way. But that's the great thing about those pure moments, they're totally personal...no two people have the same experience, even if they're sitting right next to each other. :-)

Well, I got some "cat time" tonight at my co-op meeting. Gave all of my hosts' cats a quick once-over, especially their terminal kitty, and snuggled with a couple of them. Good thing, because my own cat is *totally* sick of having my undivided attention lately...she's like "Geez...get a life, lady!" It's not quite the same, but it'll have to do (Soaring Nancy...the "heart" isn't necessarily as important as the "strong stomach" in that line of work. You get very used to the issues, but there can be a very high "ewwwww" factor sometimes).

Ah...feel better, Barkeep. And it's a Catch-22 situation on the typing thang...either you admit to not following doctor's orders or you admit to being a proficient one-handed typist. Either way, you'll never hear the end of it. Nyuk.

OhDonna, I'll be taking some time off. I have a ton of work to do for our business that has been sliding for years anyhow. Besides, I need a break.

Oh...and quick Bummer Desk notes: I've been hearing about a lot of people having GI issues with Nutro foods lately (vomiting, diarrhea), nothing confirmed, but just a lot of anecdotal stories. Likewise, I am hearing about some bad reaction issues with that new flea treatment (I think it's called Promeris?); it initially seemed like the standard email scare, but a couple of holistic vets I know have said that there may be some substance to it. I dunno...after the recalls, Nutro got bought cheap by Mars Inc. (the candy people), and the flea treatment is made by Ft. Dodge...neither company is one I've ever been completely comfortable with, so it seems like a good idea to urge common sense and caution if you notice problems.

Some day, I'll stop doing this job....*sigh*

Sending up prayers for Danny Federici's family and friends. He has been the keyboardist for Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band since the original Jersey days 40 years ago. Danny passed on today at age 58 of melanoma. I'm sure he'll be playing beautiful music with the other Rock & Roll angels very soon.

Michael, you are so bessed, really. I'm on the net a lot this week trying to keep up with the critical injuries of Carl Dixon who is the current lead singer and guitar player for the Guess Who. I also just found out that Tim Bachman of BTO fame had a massive heart attack and emergency quadruple by-pass surgery a few weeks ago. (he never told me it was THAT bad). To top it off, two of the Guess Who guys are facing major health things this week as well. I believe the Guess Who are grabbing Colin Wiebe who played with Randy Bachman for over 10 yers. Colin opened for you here 6 years ago when you played the benifit. He did the Burton songs in Randy's set and played around town with Donnie McDougall. (Canadian bands really are incestusous sp?).

If you really want to test out your salute, aim it at the Spooner. He'll give back to you double I'm sure!! (I'm just joking becasue I'm sure it was him, or Carson, or both, pictured saluting you somewhere on your site).

Hope you'll be back and groping in no time!!

Thing is Jill, I have NEVER done that stuff. SIGH.

I saw Mark Lindsay 3 weeks ago at his new restaruant in Portland Oregon. He came over to our table to say hi and help celebrate a few family birthdays. His wife set us up in the booth with a picture of Mark with Burton Cummings, or at least I think she did. Considering the size of the place, it would have been an incredible co-incendence. (sp). There are Raider pictures every where, memorabelia, a wall of guitars, (which I checked for Michael's stolen ones... not there, but thanks for posting the serial numbers in your online book!). There is also a broadcast booth completely visable liek a fishbowl, so you can watch from the street or the restatruant when Mark does his show every Sat. night. Try www.markindsay.com and follow the links so you can listen online. He has stories to tell!
As for origianl Raiders, in 1997 Mark got Fang Drake and Smitty to join him in concert in Portland. (I was there!!) and they had a Revereless reunion. (Paul owns the name). Amonth later, Drake had a stroke which he is now recovered from adn Smitty dies of natural casues a few years later while living in Hawaii. Fang is living in Vegas. He is heavily into the real estate business and still performs, as does Jim "Harpo" Vally who is in the Seattle area. Mark also spent as much time as possible when he was doing shows, always having a table out to sign stuff on and posing for endless pictures! mark has a set tiem on MOndasy where he intereacts with fans having dinner and signs his arm off and answers question, etc.

Spacey - I didn't mean to insinuate that you had done anything like that. I was joking more about my prudish self more than anyone else. I understand your sense of humor (as much as is humanly possible) so I laugh along with you.

Cindy - Mark Lindsay has been on his own for ages. Bill Medley's son Darrin does the lead for the Raiders and he's very good. (Looks darn good in those tight pants too!) He does harmony with his dad also. I never followed the Raiders over the years so the only names I knew were Paul Revere and Mark Lindsay. Paul Revere introduced his band and two of the guys have been with him for 35 years and one for 30.

Meeting the fans is one of the things you see a lot of at Branson shows. It's laid back and very friendly. I had to laugh when I realized that we were among the youngest people in the crowd. There were some younger and many in our age range, but many more that were older. It's not often that I'm among the youngest anymore, so that was nice.

Madonna - I know the guys get tired meeting all the fans and signing autographs. After doing a show, it's probably not what they feel like doing, especially after so many years. It's nice when the fans get to meet them, especially the first time. I am not sure I was able to speak the first time, but over time I learned to say a few words, usually embarrassing myself. By the time I was halfway comfortable, they stopped the meet and greets. It figures! Just kidding....

If you care to see the Raiders, check their website as they do tour part of the year. I thought they were just in Branson now as they and Bill Medley have been the headliners at the Dick Clark Theatre for 2 years. I was surprised to see that when they aren't in Branson, they still tour.

Hi Mikey! If and when you check in, I hope you're doing okay.

Jill

Sounds like a great night ... I'd love to meet Bill Medley and the Raiders too!

I was impressed with our guys on the cruise. They had the fan club Meet & Greet -- visiting, signing autographs and picture taking with us -- and then immediately following, the Autograph session with the entire audience (several hundred fans). They were smiling and signing for over 3 hours and I thought--boy, I'm dead tired on my feet, I wonder how those guys do it?

I would like to see Paul Revere and the Raiders, I hope they travel to my area. It sounds like you had a wonderful time Jill, I loved those guys when I was a kid and I thought they were so old then. But cute! Does Mark Lindsay do his own thing now? Is the rest of the group original? That is very cool how everyone attending the shows get a personal hello from the group, you both get to feel appreciated! Never did flash the "girls" either, at least not in public! How many ladies here will admit to it...where and when?

The band isn't too old. They're not young, but being old is a state of mind. Lots of people in their 40s act old and many old people still act young. The concert I attended a few nights ago had Paul Revere bragging that he's now 70. He looked great and was full of life. Bill Medley is 67 and was all over the stage, singing rock and roll and dancing. Both men and the band came out immediately afterwards to meet fans, sign autographs and pose for pictures. Paul Revere was waiting for us by the entrance to the theatre, shaking hands and talking to everyone as we exited. It was very nice to see that. His part of the show had been over for over an hour and he still waited to meet everyone. The entire Raiders band, Bill Medley and the rest of the group stayed until the last person was ready to leave and they do this every night. It's wonderful. The performers I saw weren't headed for another city the next day, so they get to go home and sleep in their own beds, which is much different than traveling from city to city (though they do still tour on and off throughout the year). I was very impressed by their level of energy and enthusiasm both during the show and towards the fans. Age doesn't seem to be slowing them down at all. Hearing their ages made ME feel old, since my very first concert was Paul Revere & the Raiders in 1969 and the ticket cost $3.00. (I still have it.) If the band members prefer to go to their rooms after a show, that's their choice.

As for flashing them to get in, somehow I don't think I have anything that they haven't already seen hundreds of times before (and much better looking) and as much as I loved seeing groups during my youth, that was never something I would have considered. Maybe it's living in the middle of the Bible Belt that kept me on the straight and narrow, or the fear of my father. Either way, if I didn't have a ticket or know someone to get me in, I was and still am, flat out of luck.

ARGH! You just reminded me of the mammogram I had this week .., the annual torture appointment!

Glad to hear our CO friends (Susan & JR) are safe from harm. That's so scary, and you know my feelings are very strong for the firefighters. God bless them too!

Hi Soaring Nancy! Private venues? The Fan club doesn't receive any info on these events since they aren't open to the public. The only way I know to get in to a private event would be to work for the corporation hosting it or to own the corporation itself, which would be even better! In which case, you'd invite all your friends ... Yes?

white russian please,
Soaring Nancy, you are welcome, I am going to ask, my brother tonight, via email, and ask if he know's what to do,I am also from Cailf. Born in Long Beach, lived in Orange Co. until my daughter, Apryl and I moved here in Nashville 11 yrs ago,may she RIP.She was 31 and passed away, 3 yr's ago 6/27/25. She had dated Kenny Chesney, the country singer a few times. Until she didn't want to battle all the other girl's that wanted him too. LOL
Anyway, I do not believe they enter any names of deceased on film until they have been gone 100 year's. I think that is what I remember. My Mom spent many hr's talking about her favorite pass time. Geneology. Sometime's I wished she'd worry more about the living than those that had passed. I will let you know what my brother say's and maybe I will call around to St. George Ut. were my Mom volunteered.
Famous Rob, have a great time at the free-bee, that sound's great! I have already planned for Hillsboro, MO. in July!! Can't wait, have never seen the Dog's Live. I was to Poor and to busy, to go to concert's while raising kid's. Now that I am retired and have alot more time, I am not going to let grass grow under my feet, and I am not quite older than dirt yet. I am going also to New Jersey in June for a Doo Wop concert. Really excited about that!! And we'll see New York and Washington D.C. for the first time. TDN will be there the same time, close to Niagra Falls, but to far to go,would add 400+ miles from New Jersey, so we'll wait until July. Ya'll have a great evening, Lorna

Thanks, Soaring Nancy...it's been weird adjusting so far. There was one cat it completely broke my heart to leave (I'm sure she's chronically ill, but because it's not obvious, no one pays attention), and I never really got a chance to properly say goodbye, so that's been really difficult. Thanks to all for the support.

On a lighter note................
Okay, exactly where did that May 2 CT show come from? Just happened to catch wind of it off the website and just happened to run across a lonesome-looking single ticket in the front row. I guess I owe someone an apology for all my bitching about the lack of shows in a 10-hour radius. *sigh* Boy, is MY face red!

And to add to it, the local arts center just announced both The Roches and Cowboy Junkies are coming in this summer. I scored Roches tickets immediately, but don't think I can swing the $$ for Cowboy Junkies (and I just look longingly at the listings for Richie Havens, Arlo, Judy Collins, Crooked Still, and Mavis Staples, all WAY out of my reach right now). What an embarrassment of riches that little venue has...a great setting for acoustic acts...just a pity that it's so small that tickets are really expensive (y'all don't even want to KNOW what Indigo Girls tickets went for last year!)

Hi Madonna Think of you often. Someday I will get caught up and start e-mailing people again!

LORNA thanks again for the offer of help. I have classes through most of the first week in May, but after that I may be yelling Help!!!!! I am in California. My uncle is not blood relation so I don't know all that much about his background and don't understand most of the material in the two boxes I was sent! He lived in Washington (the state, no D C)

DI - that is some story about your greatx5 grandmother! My mom's mom was very proud of all the blue blood on her side of the family. She was very willing to talk about them; not that interesting. Then one day she was all set to tell me about grandpa's family and how one ran off to the circus. OOOOOH, excitement! But Mom told her if she told that story, Mom would tell about tales about grandma's side. Mom's threat shut Grandma up in a BIG hurry so I am figuring it must have been pretty darn good, so darn it all, I NEVER got to hear either story. Shucks!

Famous Rob, Jill, FogBrat thanks for your posts about family history.

Madonna...thanks, it's been a very rough few weeks for me. Mr. Brat is going nuts because now that I am here all the time, he's suddenly organized and he doesn't remember how to function when he's on-time.

Cindy...the snow IS going, slowly. Didn't even tap the trees this year because of the snow depth...the sap would have frozen in the line, and none of us felt like dragging the barrel and buckets all over the mountain on a skid. Guess I'll have to *buy* sugar this year. Damn.

Kansas City? Not bloody likely. Way too much train time for an outdoor one-nighter, plus it'd mean taking the "Late Shore Limited" (shudder) to Chicago and probably a bus transfer out of Albany on the way back (groan). Granted, at least it's not (scary music) Baltimore, but still...

Speaking of free show venues, I had a strange experience last month...we were in CT working on a job (gorgeous house) and finished several hours early, so we decided to make a Krispy Kreme run to Mohegan (hey, I get to Krispy Kreme maybe once a year because it's 5 hours away, so yeah, I drove 20 miles out of the way for a donut!). I didn't know what to do with myself without spending 6-8 hours standing on that damn bridge into the Wolf Den. I kept wandering around feeling like I was supposed to BE somewhere else. I finally just gave up and went over to talk to the bridge people while I drank my beer (yes, beer and donuts). BTW, the new animatronics they put in the wolves are great, the one out at the plaza entrance has fascinating facial movements...I never got to see him last time I was there because I was so strung out from the traveling. I also (and this will warm many hearts here) finally set foot inside a Chico's...and then ran back out when I saw a sweater that cost as much as my entire Goodwill winter wardrobe. But now I can say I've been inside a Chico's...thought of several of you. ;-)

However, if I were to show up with my newly red daughter and you, I could try and pass you off as my kid's REAL dad. That would be a show stealer. You even have that nice, new looking suit to wear. I'd be sure and get an extra piece of cake for you to take home to your signifigant other, just play wild red head for a few hours. My "lottery" plan is the "TDN In My Living Room" show...all obscure album cuts, none of the hits, and everyone's invited. Sadly, I've never bought a lottery ticket, so this plan is fatally flawed.

Cindy...I can actually see some small patches of ground up here now. Everywhere else, the white stuff seems to be gone, but we still have giant piles of it around. I actually got caught in a snow and hail squall yesterday up around Bethel. Mud season should be here soon, though.

Jill...thanks for the good thoughts. Losing the job is really no financial hardship...the unpaid hours and gas averaged me out to rice-paddy wages. But it's totally broken my heart. The money/tax thing will straighten itself out, and the flu will end eventually (I hope)...but I am in serious cat-withdrawal these days.

Jill, you're cool ... we all feel that way and understand. Nobody's stirring anything up ... it's just a different perspective. When the fans enjoy TDN performances, we're off work and away from the job. It's hard for any of us to think of TDN as a business ... they are such an important part of our fun and leisure time, it's hard to remember they're working and earning a living. Especially when they make it look like so much fun! I'm sure there are times they'd rather be home, just like us.

Fogbrat - I'm sorry that things are going badly for you right now. All I can say is that I hope things start to improve soon. I'll add you to my prayers.

I remember all the hassles you dealt with last year and your disappointment over missed shows. Sometimes, a concert is just what we need to help us cope with the negative things in life. For me, it's the best medicine. It sounds like you really need that now. Hang in there and I hope that better days are ahead.

Madonna - I didn't intend to sound like a disgruntled fan. I realize that private shows are part of their busines and I understand why they list the shows on the website. I made that comment out of frustration. Though I truly understand their logic on this, it doesn't mean I have to like it. Seeing your city listed and then seeing "Private" next to it is very disappointing. I don't think most fans would disagree with that. For us, the shows are not a business. They're a joy that we look forward to and hope for. Most of us can't travel around the country and see them regularly, so when they are near our homes, we naturally get excited. If not for the website, I might never have known they were here for the private show, which is why I made the comment in the first place. I simply stated how I felt at that time. didn't mean to stir something up.

Spacey

It may read private function, but often tickets are avaialble if it is a private fundrasier. Fanclub members were able to buy tikects to the Cancer society Gala that TDN played here 6 years ago. The ticket prices are often a little STEEPER and you need formal wear. Corporate gigs, no.
You might also try and email Michael or Jimmy, your preference, and see if they fly in a day earlier. Maybe you can meet them for coffee or waffles or throw your self down on the groud in front of Cory's feet as he enters the hotle.

I'm just the messenger, so don't hurt me! Regarding private shows, this was the explanation I received and I believe it's valid and a good one.

Three Dog Night loves and appreciates their fans because they quite simply have the best fans on earth! I don't think anyone would argue with that. As much as they love entertaining us and appreciate our support, performing is not their hobby. Three Dog Night is a business, and this is how they earn their living. Private venues are a big part of their livelihood.

The reason private venues are listed on the TDN website is because as many potential "clients" visit the website as "fans" do. When a client sees a private venue listed in their city, they quite often inquire about adding an additional "public" venue while the band is in town. No, it doesn't always happen that way, but it's great advertisement for the band and does offer the potential for more shows for us fans.

I hear ya, Jill...in the last year, I've had a cross-country trip to Reno for twofer show weekend fall through at the last minute (pet food recall and vet issues), plus the Lancaster cancellation - which I didn't find out about until *after* I got to Lancaster - and there's just not a whole lot east of the Mississippi and north of the Mason-Dixon line...every time I get a Pollstar update, I just roll my eyes, because I know there ain't nothin' on it for me...I don't even bother looking half the time nowadays. And yeah, if TDN was playing a private gig at the, um...well, at the 200-seat granola-type Arts Center a few towns over, I'd be plenty bummed, so I hear what you're sayin'.

Hey, I could use a little pick-me-up these days. What the hell? I have the flu, I'm newly unemployed, and Uncle Sam is killing us to the tune of thousands this year...what've I got to look forward to? My only real option is to Amtrak it to Lancaster for the rescheduled show in July, and I have severe doubts about having the bucks to make THAT trip a second time, especially the way things have been going lately. Ain't many bright spots at my house these days. Given my luck getting to TDN shows, and the cost of gas, I think I'll pass on overly ambitious plans from now on. The CB Blues Fest trip in August really took the piss and vinegar out of me.

Re: Genealogy...I have learned to be somewhat skeptical of LDS records as final source. Many of the records are not official, but submitted by amateur genealogists and/or church members for ritual purposes, and should be backed up by a trip to the primary source cited to verify accuracy. It's not so fun for me, because after a generation or two, I'm usually into foreign countries. Luckily, a friend of mine (an experienced genealogist) and I happened to have 60+ common ancestors, so I have some branches back to, like 1066 where I just copied his lines. And then there's one line that just completely disappears off the face of the earth in the 18th century...I have had several professionals dig through the records overseas, and they've just come up empty. We have a theory, but there's absolutely no way to prove it, so it will just have to stay a mystery. I lost all my old computerized records when I switched to WinXP and have never got round to redoing them. Lately, I've been working on scanning and restoring a great-uncle's negatives...much WWII stuff, Paris ruins after the war, fascinating stuff (one beautiful shot of the Statue of Liberty taken through the porthole of his boat as he returned to the US). After that, I am supposed to start on my stepfather's slides.

And these days, I got some spare time to play with. :-/

Diane - I'm glad you are able to have that attitude about shows. I'd have been fine if it was a show that I had to travel to because I know that's not likely to happen for me anyway. But, when they're 2 miles from my house and I don't see another show on the horizon, it's depressing. Of course, I realize there are many people who have never had the chance to see them at all or have seen them less and I feel bad for them. That doesn't change how I felt last night. TDN has been my all-time favorite group since I was a teenager and to have them right here and at the same venue where I first saw them, I could not help but be depressed. Of course, there are bigger and much more important things in life than a concert. I'm not that shallow. Sometimes, we just need a lift and that show would have been perfect timing for me, but it wasn't meant to be.

Famous Rob
First of all to the Spoonette, thanks for the tip on the book and the pix at the cruise website, I found myself with Jimmie and Cory!. To Madonna: I did find a copy of Jimmie's book on eBay and I bought some CD's too!. Also for those of us who lived through that era, there were times that were wonderful and wild and there were times that we'd just as soon forget but talking about them openly but perhaps honesty proves to be therapy such as often seen in Autobiograhpies Things do change through out life and I like so many others am glad I made it to today. I shoudn't ahve. I am greatful Jimmie made it too to and the rest of the Dogs. We have all changed! ;-)

Now to all you genaology freaks....somee tips. US census have a lot of information if yoo know how to use them. Family and local Chrcuh records arehelpful as are cemetery records. MOst states have Vital statistc websites and you can glean them. If you have anacestors from the Baltic, like Northern Germany, LDS centers have a lot of mircro films from Protestadnt chruches in that area. Be aware that much of what was Prussia,(Germany before the 1880, is now actually in POland and the orignal Germanic names have been changed to Polish names. If you have folks that came from New England or the East before the 1850's chacnes are they are "Old Yankee's and have roots back in the England, and the Bristish Isles. The Norwegians are faily well traceable as well especially to the Telemark region. TIP: Christiana, Norway in the 1840's is today, Oslo. I trace my surname name back into England as my many times great grandfather landed in Charlestown/Boston in the 1630's. If you surf the web you will find lots of sites that will help you. There is a great network out there that you can connect into that is willing to help and most of it is actually free. Keep history alive and long live 3DN. Now if you'lll excuse me, Barkeep some swamp
