I
hope you enjoyed this section. I love Memphis. True, Beale
street is rapidly turning into "commercial row" never to be
plain and funky again, but, ... such is life. It's still a
great place. I have found that if you want to hear more
ethnic type of blues musicians, you should wander down to
W.C. Handy square during the daytime. Many days there are
local musicians playing there in the open air. Have a glass
of wine, maybe even some red beans and rice at the Rum
Boogie Cafe and then go and sit on the park bench and
listen. Some of the older musicians are really something.
You young guys: Don't get an attitude about old guys that
can't play as tricky as you do on your guitar. Be quiet and
listen. I guarantee that within a 20 minute period you will
hear something that you would have never thought of
otherwise. Take it home with you. Take a part of the real
blues country home with you. It just might be the best thing
that ever happened to you. Sun
Records and Sam Phillips: What a legacy. I hope you enjoyed
that part of this section, too. Go there. Dream on it. A
wonderful thing to hold on to your "impressionistic" ways.
This is the real stuff. I love our home .......... AMERICA.
